Statement:
I chose to be a part of the Equality Ride because I believe that every human being is a person of great worth and dignity and deserves to have her humanity affirmed and her existence valued. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals are no less precious than their heterosexual counterparts. There simply is no such thing as a lesser person. As a graduate student in social work, I am excited about this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of silenced people in places where they are unwelcome as they are, to find my voice and use it to speak up for justice and mercy, healing and hope, instead of hatred and condemnation, to be a part of something greater than myself, a movement for peace in a world that so desperately needs it. It would be far easier to remain silent, to avoid stepping on anyone's toes, not to make waves. But who knows whether I was put here for such a time as this? I have been called to this work for justice, not merely for myself and those of my generation, but to improve the world for the future, and I cannot refuse.
