Soulforce Q
In 2006 the first-ever Equality Ride took place, a two-month bus trip across the country to 19 colleges that actively discriminate against openly LGBT students. Thirty-two young adults made this journey. It was Soulforce's first foray into a future of creating opportunities for youth activism.
We feel that sustained, coordinated, nationwide activism is an essential component lacking from the LGBT rights movement. Young adults are particularly qualified for that missing element of direct activism, where the goal is to change hearts and minds through humanizing and localizing efforts for equality.
Our plan within Soulforce is to empower more young adults, as we did during the Equality Ride, to become active participants and leaders in the LGBT rights movement. Our five-year plan continues with campaigns concerning Don't Ask, Don't Tell, marriage inequality, college-level activism, Christian leadership, and other issues. The Equality Ride will return in 2007 with two buses and two separate routes.
We are establishing an office in Minneapolis, Minnesota from which to coordinate these efforts. A Soulforce Oklahoma House comprised of 5 Equality Riders will be a satellite of that office and also cultivate local activism in their state. Thank you for your support of the Equality Ride. All of Soulforce made it possible for the up-and-coming generation to rise to the occasion and join you in taking responsibility for the freedom and equality of our community. Please continue to support the vision of youth and check back on this page to learn how you can get involved with our future work.
