Pick on someone your own size

Jared PolisJared Polis is standing up to the bullies — and he needs you to join him.

In all likelihood, the Student Non-Discrimination Act won’t make it past the Republican majority in the House. That’s why he needs you to join him by becoming a citizen co-sponsor.

I don’t need to tell you how destructive bullying can be for students — let alone for LGBT youth. By signing on as a citizen co-sponsor to this important bill, you can help Jared make sure that this issue doesn’t get swept under the rug.

Like Jared said, it’s time to tell the bullies to pick on someone their own size.

It’s bad enough when a school turns a blind eye to bullying.

But when a school district in Texas moved to ban all extra-curricular clubs in order to avoid having to approve a Gay-Straight Alliance, it really crossed the line. The school itself became the bully.

That’s why just hours ago today I stood with Senator Al Franken and my House colleagues to introduce a bill called the Student Non-Discrimination Act. If passed into law, it would protect LGBT students from bullying, discrimination, and harassment.

Our message is clear: Pick on someone your own size.

Stand with us and add your name to my bill as a citizen co-sponsor.

I’ll be honest with you: The odds of this bill passing this session are uncertain. Too many of my Republican colleagues, regardless of their personal beliefs, are reluctant to vote for LGBT-friendly legislation.

But, even though the odds are against me, I can’t stay silent in the face of bullying — especially when the people who are supposed to protect students from bullying have become the bullies themselves.

Become a citizen co-sponsor today by adding your name as a supporter of my bill. Tell the bullies to pick on somebody their own size:

Thank you for taking part in the Fearless Campaign’s ongoing effort to put people over politics.
