| The Soulforce Equality Ride is a two month social justice bus tour that confronts political and spiritual oppression of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) people. The ride began in 2006 and has visited hundreds of cities, colleges, universities, and other institutions. The 2012 ride will be the fifth tour. This year a large emphasis is being placed on intersectional justice (or the desire to practice social justice in a way that ends all oppression against all people) and community involvement. The participants of the Equality Ride are provided top notch training, transportation, housing, and food throughout the tour. Support from rider pages like this one helps to make the Soulforce Equality Ride possible. Visit www.equalityride.com to learn more! |

Bethany Meier
Pinckney, MI
Bethany Meier will be a fresh face on the 2012 Equality Ride! She is a graduate student in the Women and Gender Studies program at Eastern Michigan University where she is doing her thesis work on inclusivity for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer persons in the Christian church. She will be graduating in December, 2011. She has been very dedicated to LGBTQ activism since coming out in high school. She founded and was president of her high school Gay Straight Alliance and is very active in her church’s LGBTQA group. She is also active on EMU’s campus, has been the representative for both her school and her church at LGBT conferences and pride events, has sat on panels for classes and groups both on and off campus and has done volunteer work with other gay groups in the Ann Arbor, MI area. Bethany is dedicated to spreading the message of God’s love for all persons. Bethany feels blessed to have been given the opportunity to be on the 2012 Equality Ride and afterwards hopes to find a job where she can continue this important work.
In Bethany’s own words
I am participating in the 2012 Equality Ride because I want other LGBT Christians to know that they are not alone. I’m so blessed that I have been shown what God’s gift of grace truly means in my life and I want to help those who use the Bible against the gay community to understand what real harm they are doing. I can honestly say that the Equality Ride has already been a life changing experience for me, and I believe that through it God will accomplish great things!
