| The Soulforce Equality Ride is a two month social justice bus tour that confronts political and spiritual oppression of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) people. The ride began in 2006 and has visited hundreds of cities, colleges, universities, and other institutions. The 2012 ride will be the fifth tour. This year a large emphasis is being placed on intersectional justice (or the desire to practice social justice in a way that ends all oppression against all people) and community involvement. The participants of the Equality Ride are provided top notch training, transportation, housing, and food throughout the tour. Support from rider pages like this one helps to make the Soulforce Equality Ride possible. Visit www.equalityride.com to learn more! |

Makenzie Marineau
Coos Bay, OR
Makenzie is a native Oregonian, and a passionate advocate for women’s rights, service learning, and the LGBTQ community. Her inquisitiveness and love for people drives her to share stories of those who otherwise can’t.
As a recent graduate of Oregon State University she holds a degree in new media communications, and experience working in politics, media relations, print and online journalism, the nonprofit sector, marketing and advertising, and facilitation and managerial roles. As an active member of her community, Makenzie volunteers her time as a board member on many committees and for organizations like “Justice in Leadership.” Also, for years she’s been empowering young women in the foster care system to live in a way beneficial to their future, and the future of those around them.
Admittedly a coffee, camera, and news addict who can’t get enough of the outdoors, learning, and travel.
In Makenzie’s own words
I joined the ride to help give a voice to the voiceless. I want to share the stories of the LGBTQ community and their allies who have been hurt, loved, and are fighting for social justice. With the combined efforts of the other “Equality Riders” and myself I know we can make an impact and positive difference.
