Zachary Pullin

The Soulforce Equality Ride is a two month social justice bus tour that confronts political and spiritual oppression of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) people. The ride began in 2006 and has visited hundreds of cities, colleges, universities, and other institutions. The 2012 ride will be the fifth tour. This year a large emphasis is being placed on intersectional justice (or the desire to practice social justice in a way that ends all oppression against all people) and community involvement. The participants of the Equality Ride are provided top notch training, transportation, housing, and food throughout the tour. Support from rider pages like this one helps to make the Soulforce Equality Ride possible. Visit www.equalityride.com to learn more!

Zachary Pullin

Spokane, WA

Zachary Pullin comes to Equality Ride 2012 after completing service in the US Peace Corps. Born in Montana on the Rocky Boy Reservation, he moved to Washington so his mother could pursue her law degree. He went on to attend Western Washington University and was involved in various leadership roles in the church, in school and in his community because of his commitment to politics and social activism. Zachary was raised Catholic and began attending a church on his own throughout his teens. Upon attending college, Zachary was involved in the campus ministry known as: the iNN as part of the music team. After coming out Zachary worked to rediscover his faith. Zachary has worked at TOMS Shoes, The NATIVE Project and for the US Peace Corps. Zachary will be the Logistics Coordinator for the 2012 Equality Ride.

In Zachary’s own words

I am participating because I believe the faith community and the GLBTQ community have great potential for reconciliation. After recent events during my service in the Peace Corps, now more than ever, the dialogue between the communities most important. God calls us to love one another – unconditionally – I believe this ride will promote that message and motivate people to embrace change and acceptance. With Soulforce’s commitment to change and activism, the Equality Ride is an incredible bastion of hope for the positive partnership of the faith and GLBTQ community. I believe in the work that Soulforce and the Equality Ride does and has accomplished. I feel that, in the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams!” With the important, exciting and challenging work ahead of the 2012 Equality Ride crew, this year has great potential to promote lasting change and remarkable amounts of progress for peace and humanity. All of us on the ride believe in the beauty of our dreams…Please join me in supporting this important program!
