2010 Equality Rider Application Form

2010 Equality Ride Application

Things to know before applying for the 2010 Soulforce Q Equality Ride:

  • The Equality Ride is transformational! At its conclusion, you will return a more powerful activist with a clearer understanding of your own potential as an organizer, a justice-seeker, and a human being!

  • All young adults between the ages of 18 and 28 may apply. You are not required to identify with any faith tradition, sexual orientation or gender. As we strive to cultivate a safe, diverse and inclusive community, we encourage young adults who have varying physical abilities, who are of racial and ethnic minorities, and are gender non-conforming to apply.

  • While on the Equality Ride, Soulforce will pay for all travel, lodging, food and official Equality Ride apparel.

  • You must be able to be on the road continuously during the months of March and April and attend a mandatory training which will be held December 30-January 7. Reliable access to telephone and internet communication is vital. If access is limited please let us know so we can do our best to accommodate you.

  • Please visit our website (www.equalityride.com) for further information before completing your application. Feel free to contact caitlin@soulforce.org with any questions you may have.

Please answer the following questions, save them as a file (.doc, .txt, etc.) and upload that document here.

    1. Why you, why now, why the Equality Ride (please answer approximately 500 words or less).

    2. From the moment you are accepted until even after the bus has pulled to a final stop, the Equality Ride requires a significant amount of time, energy, and sacrifice. How do you plan to balance your work, personal, and time commitments with the Ride responsibilities?

    3. We often hear the following question. How would you respond? “Why are you here at our school? We’re a private institution and we have the right to defend the word of God and what we believe. We have a fundamental difference of agreement and you’re not going to change my mind and I’m not going to change yours. Why are you bothering? You’re just trying to get arrested and make a scene.”

    4. We often say that the people most changed by the Equality Ride are ourselves. What is something you hope to accomplish, learn, or change about yourself from your experience on the Ride? What is something unique you are bringing to the Ride to share with your fellow Riders and the schools we visit?
