History of Soulforce

I'm new here and was looking around for some history about events from past years and if Chad Allen was involved before. Last night I checked Chads fan club site looking for why he might be interested in soulforce. I saw links to soulforce and matthewshepardfoundation along with lots of nice pics of Chad. I used to watch Dr. Quinn, medicine woman, but never paid attention to the names. I've never paid for TV and with only 3 channels to watch, Dr. Quinn was one of the most interesting shows on during that time.

Well I suppose that if I had been in Col. Springs, I would not have any questions. But for those of us who never made it and who are new here, I was wondering if someone could point me to where the history page is or maybe make this a history thread with some background info of the celebritys involved.

Sorry that I didn't notice this thread sooner... I didn't mean to over-look it.

As for celebritys... none other have really been in volved any actions that I know of...

As for history of past year's events/actions and such... just over from the home page button, it says 'National'... if you look at that you can bring up information from events in the past several years:)

As for celebritys... none other have really been in volved any actions that I know of...

Actually George Takei (Capt Sulu from Star Trek) showed up on the 2006 Equality Ride in Minneapolis at a rally and gave a nice long speech! :D Also, Jason & DeMarco performed at a few of the ER 2006 events and so did the band Someone's Sister!

Hey! And speaking of celebrities showing up at Soulforce, we should include more than just stars of stage and screen! At my first Soulforce Action in 2000 at the United Methodist General Conference we heard from a daughter of Martin Luther King, Yolanda. I believe Yolanda is an actress, and she was a powerful speaker. We heard from a grandson of Gandhi, Arun who carries on Gandhi's mission of teaching non-violence. We heard from one of ML King's mentor's, James Lawson, who trained those who did the Nashville lunch counter sit-ins in the early days of the Civil Rights movement, and who continues to provide leadership in movements for social justice.

Mel once promised to get Tammy Faye Baker to show up at a Soulforce event, but he didn't pull it off. Does she count as a celebrity?

Tammy is a celebrity in my eyes. I love her! She has been battling cancer for years. The time she was going to join us in Lynchburg she became very ill again. Maybe some day she will be up for it again.

I love Tammy Faye too - now there is a true Christian woman. She's had a tough battle and her love still shines thru. :love:

Megan Mullaly gave a speech opening ceremonies at the Gay Games. She is one of our most avid supporters and a great speaker. :rolleyes:

We've been working on a history of Soulforce for several months now. It's in the process of being edited and we hope to have it finished by Christmas. In the meantime you can use the website National actions - they're fascinating.
