As open and certain as I am about my own sexuality, I love finding out about other GLBT people out there. It gives me a warm feeling inside to know that other women have loved women, had meaningful relationships, some had children, some were married or had commitment ceremonies, and some grew old together. It's wonderful to see and know.

For those times when things get a little tough, I've been working on a powerpoint presentation, purely for personal use, of happy pictures I've found online of GLBT couples and families. I got the idea at a time when I was thinking that maybe my girl's mom wouldn't be so hard against her daughter's sexuality if she knew that marriage, kids, and happiness were still possible. It's turned into something just for me, but I like it better this way. I have wedding photos, hugs, kisses, kids, families of all shapes and sizes, and whatever I can find. Here and there I do a basic google image search and add more pictures.

I absolutely love looking through the pictures on that presentation and thinking about all the other people out there. It's comforting to know that we all have something in common.

I have photographic proof for myself that I am not weird, there are others like me, and my happiness would not be unique... and it helps. :D

Aw. Idea. Maybe make a photoblog or something? That way, others could see it too.

Great idea, Mia! In a documentary that I show in one of my trainings, called "It's Elementary, Gay and Lesbian Issues in Schools", a school in Cambridge, MA, is depicted having a black and white photo exhibit entitled "Love Makes a Family- living in gay and lesbian families". I get choked up every time I see it referred to in the documentary, because the photos are beautiful, and real people living their lives as we are trying to.

This sounds like a variation on the belief that the world could get in touch with us a whole lot faster if EVERYBODY would come out. I love it.

BruceChris: You have helped me brainstorm. Mia, you could title your montage of photos "Come out, come out, wherever you are!" Waddya think?

Brit - the photoblog thing I don't think I'd do with these pictures just because they're not my images to share with everyone. On the other hand, that's a great idea! Are there any websites to create photoblogs? I think it'd be awesome if we could have a public one where people could post pictures of their families.

Jen - thanks for the link. The pictures of Robynne and Dotti are really wonderful.

Vanessa - maybe that's just why this is so meaningful to me: these people are real people who are living their present as I'd like my future to be. This montage has my hopes and dreams. Love, family, happiness... I like the title suggestion, too, and have added it to the previously unnamed collection.

BruceChris - Everybody coming out reminds me of the idea that everyone GLBT wear purple for one day so that the world can see how many people they know are GLBT.

Anyone have happy pictures to add to my collection?

Hi Mia: I tried to google the exhibit after I posted earlier today, but couldn't get the display itself to come up. No personal photos at this point, have to wait for the sequel for that I guess! How are you??
