Our own airline flies into TLV, and this has been a springboard to visit many a nation and site in the Holy Land over the better part of the past two decades.

There was a time, even during the Clinton administration, when our country was seen as a biased but honest broker in the region. It was felt that Clinton could keep " excessive responses " from the Israeli Labour or Likud governments in check. The spy case by an American for Israel and the unwillingness of our government to release him spoke to that reality. Also was the willingness of Sharon to deal with Hezbollah on the matter of exchange of prisoners.

It seems that with the "Dominionist Theocons and the secular neocons" in power in Washington DC, that the recent outcome was certainly to make our country seem to promote the neocon agenda in both nations. No compromise, upheaval among Sunnis and Shi'ites and the extreme fundies in Saudi, all seem to converge with the Rapture fantasies if Armageddon is unleashed like a Tim La Haye novel.

Thank you for the great response, and I agree w/ your assessment LGBT Flight Attendent. Fundamentalist Christianity and Fundamentalist Islam both believe in the Day of Judgement ending with a great battle. Despite their efforts, to force it into being, is not going to make their fantasies a reality.
