How did you find out about Soulforce?
I was reading a story on the internet about GLBT families organizing to attend the annual White House Easter Egg event. I found the approach of showing the GLBT community and their families most intriguing and wanted to know the orginizations behind it, and found out about Soulforce.
What about Soulforce keeps bringing you back here?
The people.
What is you favorite thing about this site?
The overwhelming sense of community.

~ My ex-partner knows Mel and introduced me to SF.
~ My newest "life project" is fraught with much potential to be led "off
message" and down the same dark path as those I confront. SF is my
"counterweight" to those dark influences and it is you, Jen, and Zerbie,
Dash, Vanessa, Jamie and all the others that not only keep me well
grounded, but also provide the spiritual strength to help me stay
focused.
~ This is an EASY one~! Check out the Member's List~!! It is my biggest
blessing to date to walk in the company of those such as you~!!
Peace & Love 2 U All~!!

1. local "community" magazine, I *think*. . .listed a SF chapter in our area. Our chapter was actually extinct, but in trying to find it locally, I ran across the main website. Signed up for alerts, and one day got a notice that forums had been created, which absolutely tugged at my internet forum-addicted heart. :p
2. US!!!!! :D

I love my friends here. The activism is icing on the cake. I enjoy the discussions and the questions. And the polls about favorite movies, bla blah blahhh. :p

That the Religious Right(RR) is actually run by a bunch of werewolves?       :agree: :smashy:
I can't help it, just for a moment, I'm gonna ROF/LM(F)AO.
(A) O.K., So how did I find SF? I think it was on a link, or a link from a link, from Beliefnet.
(B) Why do I keep coming back? The people, the ability to contribute something now and then, maybe learn something, and, I have to admit, the opportunity to indulge in a little sarcasm, let off some steam, and remind myself yet again, that we are ALL children of God, in need of love and forgiveness, Especially those who cause us the most pain. I guess I feel a certain freedom to say things here about the RR that would be painful for both of us, for me to actually say to them.
Probably more important than that is the opportunity, now and then, to reach out to the newbies that come asking for Love and Acceptance.
(C) Why do I keep coming back? It is because of the kind, thougtful, beautiful, wonderful, sensitive, and openly vulnerable things that are posted here, And The People Who Post Them.
It allows me to go back to that Big Bad    fear driven world out there, and do my best to approach people with kindness. And try to learn to be more of a people person, something I'm not very good at sometimes.
(edit) And, oh yeah, CARM and UMC are HUGE.
Peace, Love, and perhaps a little Humility now and then, Bruce Chris

BC: LOL....no, just hairier than average~! ;) Actually, it's purely a metaphor
for the age old struggle between good & evil condensed to a simple,
symbolic level. The concept of going "straight to the heart" of the problem.
There now, clear as mud~?? ;)
But I DO like your analogy~!! After all, "Dr." Dobson does seem to growl a
lot~!!

I was moved by this.

Exactly.
Not to mention the fact that most of my IRL friends aren't interested in any sort of activism. So for now I get my "activism" fix via online - hoping to expand my world soon, though.

How did you find out about Soulforce?
What about Soulforce keeps bringing you back here?
What is you favorite thing about this site?
1. A friend recommended Mel's book to me as I was having difficulty accepting my sexual orientation at the time, and after reading it - I began looking for SoulForce online.
2. To quote or paraphrase Dash, we are a family - an online church - we encourage and help one another. Its a LGBT-affirming home.
3. The fabulous people and members here. Y'all are great.

My favorite thing about SF forums - is all of you!!!!
To answer Jen,
How did you find out about Soulforce?
I read Mel's book, did some web surfing and found the web site, ordered some stuff and then saw they started the forums.
What about Soulforce keeps bringing you back here?
The people who post, the regulars, the newbies, yes even those who might not agree with me/us. Oh and the news is great too! SF is a place that makes me feel like I'm not alone as a lesbian who considered herself to be a Christian, although definitely not in the sense of 'religion'
What is you favorite thing about this site?
The people here (all of you!), a ability to express my humor and enjoy the humor of others, great information and insight I get from the threads, web site and book referrals and the news postings.
It's the greatest place besides home!

It is wonderful to have a bunch of people who know the uniqueness of my struggle. I do not have to describe how finding the wrong gender attractive is not the same "sin" as lusting after the neighbor or having that drink you promised God you wouldn't. The capacity for empathy that a gay, spiritual person has is extremely rare. The ability to both be gentle but strong in convictions is a gift God rewards our pain with. We have a definate purpose for being on this planet and SF gives us an amazing place to explore and focus it. It exemplifies the step into not just feeling that we are okay as gay, but blessed, and called to use it.

    Great questions, Jen. I found out about Soulforce when I was surfing the net for supportive, religious resources for LGBT youths and adults. What my favorite thing about it is, and what keeps me coming back, is all of my family here. As I have said on several other threads throughout the last few months, you have come to mean so much to me, by being there when I needed someone the most. Or, by sharing your own touching story in a way that moved me. Or, by throwing in some good sarcasm to help me not take my life so seriously. Or, by sending hugs and prayers just because you all are who you are. In many ways, without sounding overdramatic, Soulforce saved my life. It helped me to not feel so alone and isolated in how I view the world. Thank you all for that. I love you all.

1. How did you find out about Soulforce?
2. What about Soulforce keeps bringing you back here?
3. What is you favorite thing about this site?
1. I think I was surfing the internet or reading or something. I read TONS, so it's hard to say...
2. The posts here are incredibly well-articulated, and I can't tell you how many times I read something and just think, wow. I am struggling right now with coming back to something, but what that something is I just don't know. When I left fundamentalism, I had no interest in keeping any of the beliefs, and I am still bitter and angry. But something, not necessarily about fundamentalism, but something is piqueing my interest in terms of spirituality. Most religions won't make a place for me at their table, and SF says they should. I believe that SF actions are really important, and I hope to take part in more of them.
3. My favorite thing is just hearing that so many people have struggles similar to mine. It really is a community.

The people. You generally seem very open-minded, & intelligent. I have no idea how many forums I am currently an inactive member of because that description does not fit most people. I actually feel somewhat valued.
What is your favorite thing about this site?
It actually inspires me to do something, or more accurately, keeps me inspired enough not to be as distracted as I have been for a while.

Omigosh, yeah! I've joined so many forums and stopped posting on them, or just post less often. There are a few (this one, a singer forum. and a fitness forum) where the people are very intelligent, articulate, and open-minded about most things, but this forum beats the others by a mile. The people here are amazing with their generosity, their kindness, the ability to disagree respectfully without it ever interfering with the friendships and comraderie, it's amazing.
I'm glad you feel valued here. I feel the same way. Pretty incredible for a website!!!! :D

For me, this is my first encounter with being involved on forums. I am so grateful that it was my first. It is helping me to be very vigilant about other ones that I check out, in deciding whether or not to post or dialogue. Part of my delay in getting involved with forums on line has been my fears about personal info on line- what is so interesting, is that I have NO FEARS here about my info. Sure, sometimes I wonder if there are people just reading, not posting, and what they may do to try to harm me with my own info, but that is rare. I feel watched out for here, protected, loved, nurtured, respected, embraced- it is the most secure and yet strange feeling ever, since most of you I have never met in person! Somehow, that doesn't seem to be an issue, although I would love for us to all meet at some point. Soulforce really helped me to trust my path, and know that all will be well....

Thank goodness!!!!! It makes me sad, actually, that it seemed like a possibility to you, that you might be. :'(
Anyway, there are several married people floating around this forum. What matters is how we treat each other, not who our partners are.
I'm glad you're still around.

Otseng I think there are a lot more straight people here than we realize... we just all get along and don't really say if we're glbt or straight, and that detail just doesn't really seem to make much difference... we've come to be a big happy family, after that I don't think a small detail could ever matter.

It's not so much about sexual orientation.
It's about the human experience, whatever that may be. Humanity, valuing diversity, sharing ourselves with our human brothers and sisters, encouraging, supporting, even differing on our opinions. For those who still post here (abusers are not here long) - that's what it's about. We are all brothers and sisters at the core of our existence and what/how we think, feel, experience is a valuable thing to share. Everyone brings something to the table - gifts - that we can all use in our lives and journeys.
I appreciate all that you, my friends, give to me and how it has helped me over the last several months. I love you all!!

I couldn't agree more, Tdogg. It is all based in unconditional support, listening and taking care of one another as fellow human beings. Even for those on here who are not Christian, it is only partly about the religious aspect. It is, even more so, about how we all come together in the human family, our struggles are so much the same in so many ways, and our frailties don't seem to matter so much here. Love abounds!!!!! Love you too Tdogg!

I found the site by searching "homosexuality and the bible" on Yahoo. I was quite excited, in fact.
What keeps bringing me back? I am quite new to this site--but so far I am enjoying the active use of the forum and how helpful, thoughtful, and understanding the people seem to be.
My favorite "thing" about the site thus far is that people actually respond to pretty much every post that is made (which does not happen on other message boards/forums I have looked at or been a part of) and that people seem to be sincerely interested in the thoughts, ideas, and feelings of others--and they share that with each other. It's quite good.
