Hey everyone,
Just finished a week of inservice (ugh!!!) I am seriously coveting your prayers and support as I head back into the classroom after a very short summer. I met some of the parents and kids tonight and they all seem really sweet and will be fun to work with.
However, I don't like what Texas is doing to our kids with No Child Left Behind. I don't like this law, and feel like it seriously damages our kids. The TAKS test is a just becoming ludicrous. Anyone in Texas with kids or without should know what this dumb test is. Next year they are going to phase out the test that Special Ed kids take, which is now a modified version of the ones the regular ed take. I guess they are expecting these kids who are below level to miraculously pass the TAKS test, and when they don't, it is us as teachers who have to pay the price for Bush's ego. It makes me ill. I am sure there are those who disagree with me, but having been in the classroom for 21 years, I don't think my opinion is anything to dismiss.
Anyway, just pray for me and my classes. Love to all of you.:)

Good luck to you and all "your" kids.

How much classroom time do you have to devote to teaching to the test? As opposed to actual education?

Hi pnggrad

Happy back to school. You are in a tough position, I agree the testing crosses the boarder into ridiculous. There are problems here in CA too. At least the students and parents seem to be great.

Wishing you all the luck, and of course you have my prayers!
