How to waste Focus on the Family's money. (http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=54084)
The stuff Lisa finds when she gets bored...
I'm not really sure where this thread should go. I wouldn't really consider it activism, but feel free to move it if you want.

If you're evil because you laughed, then I'm evil for considering it. :D
The only thing I didn't agree with was selling it on eBay because I wouldn't want to redistribute that garbage.

I always found it odd when the referred to their prices as donations, I didn’t think they actually sent the stuff without "donating!" I’ll definitely have to try it.
I read in the book “James Dobson’s War on America” that as CEO of Focus on the Family, Dobson doesn’t take a salary but keeps the profits from the books and CD’s they sell, after using the facility’s resources to produce them of course. Plus without taking a salary it’s kind of hard for the other board members to hold him accountable for his myriad of in house and related nefarious activities.
Thanks Britt, I’ll let ya know how it goes. ;)

A funny article, which was likely the author's intention.
But a note on practicality (did I just hear a sigh?)
Remember, organizations such as Focus on the Family and Soulforce operate on individual donations (the bulk) and a few large grants from foundations. One of the numbers foundations and other major donors look at when making decisions on large financial gifts is online distribution of resources, where names and addresses are able to back those numbers. Being able to point to hard data such as that (with state by state distribution) carries much more weight than merely stating "we passed out 10,000 books outside such and such place." (On a side note, most organizations such as Soulforce have privacy policies in place that prevent the organization from sharing that data.)
So if tons of GLBT-friendly folks placed orders for these anti-gay resources, FOTF, in their 2007 grant proposals, would likely highlight those materials as being their most popular resource. Would this entice anti-gay foundations to award larger grants to FOTF?
Now the interesting part. Soulforce has ordered free anti-gay resources from FOTF. One of the steps is to research our adversaries and, hey, why pay for that?
So my two cents is...
Good: personal research of adversary
Not so good: as a means of large scale activism

Alright... if laughing at that makes you evil than I'm the devil:eek:... I agree with Mia though I wouldn't ever feel ok selling it just because I wouldn't ever want people to read any of it if I had a say. On the other hand you could have one interesting party if everyone ordered as many as they could, then started a big fire in someone place.... a book burning party:rolleyes: ... Jamie you have a good point though the more they give away the more people are going to be willing to give them to"keep up the good work" as they would put it.
Emproph you have to let me know how that works though... maybe I can send the to other address... or something..... I have to say no matter what that is definately funny...:D

That’s perfect Jennifer.  It would literally be a literal and symbolic book burning. :disagree: :reading: :disagree:

Man, if you weren't on the opposite end of the country we could have so much more fun with this... it would we so fun! To bad it's just not the same all by myself and I don't have a church to get involved in this anymore (my old church would of been happy to join in the fun)...... Emproph, I wish we lived in the same area.:earth:
