Grassroots Website Supports Minnesota Senator Lourey's Stand For Legal Marriage Equality

For Immediate Release

August 27, 2006 - Supporters of Becky Lourey launch www.supportbecky.com (http://www.supportbecky.com) to highlight her support for legal marriage equality in her bid for Governor of Minnesota. State Senator Becky Lourey’s belief that gay and lesbian couples have as much right to legal marriage as heterosexual couples is in stark contrast to the DFL-endorsed candidate Mike Hatch’s and the incumbent Governor Tim Pawlenty’s public comments, stating legal marriage is between a man and a woman.

The issue-based website focuses on Senator Lourey’s stand for legal marriage equality and her stand against the repeated and defeated anti-gay marriage amendments that have been introduced in the Minnesota Legislature.

The website also calls for GLBT Minnesota voters to vote in the September 12 primary election because the strength of the GLBT vote far outweighs the consistently low voter turnout in previous primary elections.

Gold Star Mother, Becky Lourey, raised 12 adopted and birth children, and is parent to a gay child in a committed relationship. Although she respects her child’s right to privacy, she has publicly stated that legal marriage equality should be extended to her child as well as other GLBT citizens.

Ahhnold has signed a bill giving GLBT folk basic civil rights protections, after vetoing an equal marriage bill, and causing a bill about gays in history to be watered down a lot. You can read about it here.

Of course, the American Family Assn. people are warning about some bill out in Ca. that gives gays and lesbians "Dangerous New Powers". From the way the two articles read, I'm sure that they must be talking about two different bills.

P.S., Of COURSE I'm voting for Becky.

Since Dubya's administration took office, there has been massive unemployment. The jokes now come pre-written. :( :unhappy:

Well, if the joke writers can just hang in there a couple more years, maybe they can all get re-employed (is that a word??). Unless of course, we elect a new joke...ummm..er...I mean, well, let's just say "President".... :p
