I just read the article at PlanetOut, and clicked the link and found myself here. I really know nothing more than what I have just read about Soul Force in the article. But I thought I should see what is happening.

I have been living in the Middle East for the past 20 years. Last year I was teaching linguistics in Palestine and got seriously sick there. At the same time I finally got my US Veterans disability for the sexual abuse and torture I suffered as a gay person in the US Air Force 40 years ago and they gave me a full 100% disability compensation and so now I am considering how to focus my life outside of academia.

My son finally finished his studies and has a job and got married last year. I am living in his old apartment, and seeing doctors and such. I don't have to be responsible to anyone or for anyone so I am free to do what I want. It's been a tough year, but I have a great therapist who is helping me with the re-focus.

I have been an activist all my adult life all the way back to before the 60s. I am about as leftist as they get. Maybe I still can do some good. Love and Peace and Prayers for Peace. Isa fakir.

I guess I should have added that my latest contribution to the universe is being active in CouchSurfing.com. I have hosted people from all over the world over the last 10 months and it has been very illuminating and inspiring. They have a very active gay SIG. I have just today had a lovely meeting with the people in Istanbul who are running the local Open Space collective. I am beginning to consider ways I can be and do more.

Wow - what a story!!!!

I'm glad you're here. It would be great to hear more from you.

I'm new to activism, but I guess I'd be classified somewhere left of center.

The forums here are pretty great - loads of fascinating conversations about how to put beliefs into actual practice - stuff like that. It would be great to have your input.

Welcome. :)
