I have just joined the Soulforce community. I am the Minister of Outreach and Reconciling Ministries at the Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church in Golden Valley, Minnesota.
I just attended a conference in Minneapolis where Dr Mel White spoke and was very impressed by him and this organization called Soulforce. I have and have had a passion for social justice since my seminary days in the late 1970's. I was married then and I did not come out to myself and a few close friends until 1989. Due to the inhospitality of the institutional church I left active ministry in 1994. I found it impossible to go to church for a number of years because it was too painful.
The church that I am at now became a reconciling church (i.e. a church that welcomes persons of all sexual orientations and identities.) Because I had spoken at this church a number of times over the last 15 years, this church believed in me and hired me to reach out to GLBT persons and their families. I am very grateful. There are a number of people here who, along with me, would like to become peaceful agitators and advocate for GLBT issues. I believe we can be emboldened by the ministry of Soulforce.
