I still use this book, available through this site from Amazon, to help me understand the passages from the Bible that others have used against us.

In my opinion, the first part of Romans is very easy to understand.

The key to Paul's opening rhetoric is in the first verse of Chapter 2:

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? ~Romans 2:1-4

The fundamentalists never quite make it to Chapter 2. They are so busy beating us about the head and neck with Chapter 1 that they don't realize that Paul is still addressing THEM!!! Paul is writing to tell them NOT TO JUDGE!!!

They ignore the immediate and very clear context of Romans Chapter 1 in order to support their attacks on us.

Paul was obviously not talking about homosexuality as we know it today...he was not giving any Church doctrine regarding gay people...he was addressing CHRISTIANS WHO PASSED JUDGEMENT ON THOSE THEY CONSIDERED WICKED! :smashy:

That is the true context and original intent of Romans 1, and any use of it by Christians to judge gay people is nothing but the darkest irony!

Always Remember that You are a man with the soul of a man. When you make love to another man, you please God with the afffirmation of your true nature. It is a holy encounter. The more you love, The closer you are in connection with the spirit that knows your soul. This is why It feels good! God created you gay so that you can love another of his Gay children. There is no verse in the Bible that can leap off the page and harm you. The only harm comes from what some one or you yourself might do to you in the name of their God. Violence in spirit or material form is not God's will. If a verse causes you to feel badly, then you are misinterpreting it as it was not put there to harm you. You are just not ready at this time to understand it. Select another verse that does make you feel good for this is God's message that you are ready to understand. God wishes you to love another man so that he can share in your joy!

A Time to Embrace: Same-Gender Relationships in Religion, Law, and Politics by William Stacy Johnson (Hardcover - Dec 15, 2006)

It's a great book discussing the different posiitons of the varying Christian denominations. Very well written and scholarly. The notes are great too!

Dr. Johnson touches on the various verses in Genesis, Judges, Deuteronomy and Leviticus, also the Pauline Epistles. It is an eyeopener.

» Thom says: ☛ For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those who by their wickedness repress the truth.

Just adding to suggestions already placed here. If the truth sets us free, then repression of the truth keeps us in bondage. According to Micah, the Eternal One would have us do Justice (restrain those who would oppress others), love mercy (relieve the oppression of others), and humble ourselves to Walk with God (that is, be who we are and nothing more or less).

So what is the truth about what the Hebrew and Christian Testaments say about Homosexuality? Not a lot, really. And what it does say suggests that it is abuse of others, injustice, cruelty, and pride that is found to be a problem.

As to your request for reading material:

This does look like a good new resource. I'll have to order it from Amazon (doesn't seem to be available at most retailers).

I was reading from Romans 1:18 on, and before Paul gets to the part about all of the sin, and lust, and licentiousness, he warns us about the dangers of worshiping the images of Reptiles!

Now, never mind that high school and college sports teams "worship" just about every kind of creature that I can think of, and a few that I can't, you just may have crossed some kind of a line here. You just MAY have to ask for some special consideration here, although, being the forgiving sort, I'm sure that She will grant it. :good: :agree:

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

» Thom says: ☛ I am not sure I understand what my definition of Identity has to do with this thread. You have lost me on that.

As to worship, I worship no being. I may learn and adore, and seek to infuse into my own being the qualities of that being that I adore so much. There are not gods that demand my prostrations that are worth my time and effort. And Dragons are Daimonic Δαίμων (Daimon; divine being, lesser god, guardian spirit, death; intelligent soul.) , not reptiles.
