The leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/national/usstatesterritoriesandpossessions/connecticut/index.html?inline=nyt-geo), Bishop Andrew D. Smith, has authorized priests to give blessings to same-sex unions during religious ceremonies. The move threatens to further alienate the conservative wing of his church and deepen a fissure between progressive and orthodox Episcopalians nationwide.
“I believe in my heart and soul that it is time for this church, this diocese, formally to acknowledge and support and bless our sisters and brothers who are gay and lesbian, including those who are living in faithful and faith-filled committed partnerships,” Bishop Smith said on Saturday in a speech at a diocesan conference in Hartford.

Daniel, I thought you'd be all over this for us! ;)

Steve- you beat me to it! The last line of the piece says much.

Father Leighon (conservative) added, “It’s not that we’re against gays. It’s rather that we’re affirming the traditional beliefs that only a man and a woman should be intimate for life in holy wedlock.”

Don't you just love it when a bigot tries to say that he isn't a bigot?

reminds me of what my prejudiced grandmother used to say about the "coloreds" :( she had nothing against them, as long as they kept their place.....

I have had the experience of asking a mixed group of people if they would rather have a life defined by their relationship with those that they love, or by their relationship with people that they despise. They of course choose the former. However, if I then rephrase the question, and ask, "Would you rather be faggot or a biggot", most of them immediately look uncomfortable, and usually just run and hide.

What sacrifice would any of us be willing to make, if we would then be happy? And indeed, would it really be a sacrifice?

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

god and jehovah bless the union of the gays, unite as one, and power forward into the future. We are as one. Thats what gay love is about.
