:p :) Hello, We are Danny and Stephen, living in Austin, TX. We are just beginning to learn about Soulforce and how we can be a part of the effort to bring inclusive rights to the world. Although we are very activist minded as a couple, we have been rather low-key in our approach...becoming more aquanted spiritually with MCC Austin at Freedom Oaks, members of the Gay and Leasbian Chamber of Commerce, HRC and Equality matters.
(Stephen) I come from a conservative background of the church of christ from a large area of influence (Dallas, TX, Nebraska, Indiana, Cincinnati, OH, Harding University - Arkansas) After coming out of the closet joined the MCC in 1993. I am hoping to clarify many of my convictions and solidify my stance on many issues. ...a note of interest, my sister-in-law just became one of the Directors of WWYC.org the World Wide Youth Camps, which teach english to children in Russia(among other countries) using the bible as a text book. Although the organization is conservatively based, I am hoping they don't delve into the details of doctrine, which would most likely include anti-homosexual rhetoric. None-the-less, congratulations to Julie Williams and hopefully having family in an influential setting will allow me to voice my opinion and actually have it Heard instead of falling by the wayside.

Hey Danny and Stephen,

We talk about activism ideas here all the time, hopefully you'll find a niche of some sort - here or elsewhere. :)

Welcome to SoulForce,

Welcome!

Austin - seems like THE place to be for Soulforcers - don't we have a whole lotta members in Austin? Nice town, 'cept for the traffic. (We have family there, and visit fairly regularly.)

So you're a music therapist? There are many musicians on the forum. I'm in a music school right now (for performance) that has a music therapy program - I don't know a lot about that department except that it's highly selective and apparently one of the most rigorous degree programs at the school.

Nice to meet you - come back and chat some more. :)

Recently there was a ceremony to celebrate the new "voice of Soulforce" here in Austin.
Zerbie, music therapy is a very rewarding career...but similar to many performance careers or helping professions, the reward is mostly intrinsic and not monetary in nature. I remind myself that my treasure is in heaven...and God has blessed me(through this work) with loving children with special needs that I get to interact with and play music with every day!

;) It is good to meet another musician ...you're the first on here so far.
