I just got back from a 3 day weekend in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We were doing a get out the vote campaign to support a NO vote on proposition 6, to repeal their current (and unconstitutional) blanket** anti-abortion law. The supporters of this law hope to use it as a test case, to bring before the Supreme Court. Despite the fact that the polls show that the anti's are ahead of the "pro"-lifers 52 to 42, this is a very hotly contested race, and it will all depend on voter turnout.

This event was sponsored by the ACLU, and we had volunteers from ALL over the country. The bunch that drove 15 hours straight thru from Indiana, and those who drove 25 hours from Florida. New York, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, and from there on, I forget. We knocked on over 10,000 doors, and phone banked something like 15,000.

**No exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother.

I got to meet some truly wonderful people. And when I got home, I discovered that my quiet, unassuming astrophysicist/cosmologist (Rocket Scientist!) roomie had spent the weekend door knocking for local candidates.

Hey, there are plenty of straight candidates, issues, and supporters out there that we need to keep in mind.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

I would have volunteered for this if I was able to leave the country (I'm still the process of getting Canada's version of the "green card" and am not able to leave the country until it's finished.) But I should be able to travel to the States again well before the '08 election. :)

Glad to hear that there are so many others who were able to help.

We even had a Canadian named Jessica, from Toronto, wonderful young lady. So you were well represented.
