Is there something that makes you think of good things?
Here's mine.
Let me introduce you to Mr. Buddha. I found him at the Toronto flea market a few years back. I was told that he came from Rome. Rome New York that is. Made around the 1920's or 30's. The kind of thing that you might see as background in a Bogart movie.
Yep. He's got a bulb sticking out of his head. Enlightened you might say. That's part of his charm. He's made of wood. And someone used him as an incense burner- his belly is a little charred. Kinda like life, right?
In any case, I sometimes sit in bed and just look at him. He makes me feel peaceful, closet Buddhist that I am.
Ok. Your turn.
Show and Tell.

Daniel: I can't download a picture, but what always brings me a warm, peaceful, loving feeling at this time of year is my Christmas tree. It isn't decorated yet, but I could sit and look at the lights on it for hours. On Saturday, I was feeling pretty low, and just wrapped up in a blankie and laid down on the floor next to it. I fell asleep, I felt so peaceful. To me, it is really the epitome of love and the Christmas season for me. Thanks for this! And, why are you up at 3AM, is that your normal schedule? Hope you are well, Peace and love, Vanessa

Oh yeah. Love Christmas Trees too. Gotta go see the big one at Rockefeller Center. I think the one that makes me smile the most (the memory of) is my grandmother's 7 foot alluminum tree with pink ornaments and a revolving color wheel.
We don't have much room for a tree is our NYC apartment, so I will put up garland on the mantel with some old ornaments attached. Oh...and I have one of those small goose feather trees. Mr. Buddha just sits all this stuff out, mind you. ;) He's a patient guy.
What was I doing up? Well. Sometimes my mind gets all busy and before you know it, up comes the dawn with it's pale cool light. I write, post, write some more (writing project).

I have almost always earned a living with my head. I, at one time, even came to believe that my ability to solve problems and strategize was the only thing in which I should have faith. Thankfully, at around 40, I stepped back onto the sane side of the line (just barely, mind you).
God, creator or all that is, gave us the ability to continue creating in this amazing place of God's handiwork. When I let myself just watch as God's creations take over the little bed that I made and planted, I see the wonder of God all over again.
The same thing happens when a piece of wood ands up as a piece of art. The other photo is a reconstructed 1810 chapel in Delaware Ohio that I had the privilege of working on. I made the pews to match the only remaining fragment of an original pew. In the shop, these were just pieces of wood - nicely finished, but lifeless just the same. Then they were transformed ...
A garden or my woodshop is where I always find some joy to remind me that God is still working in me, on me and through me.

well, this made me smile, although I don't get to see it very often, unless I use a mirror.
it's my tattoo with a celtic (keltic!) knot, sun face, and crescent man in the moon. sorry the pic is a bit blurry, but then, you probably don't want it to much clearer.....

My Mini stallion (Sammy) and I. He is 27 inches tall, 12 years old. and follows me like a puppy. He steals my tools while I am working if I don't pay attention to him:lol:

Scotty- he's adorable!!!!!!
I so loved our dear Jasper- we found him on our third date 15 years ago near the old police station in Little Italy. He went to the great beyond last summer. 14 wonderful years together and lessons in loving. And there are times when I swear- I mean- I swear I see/feel him around the place. Hello? Am I going crackers? Thought I was making it up until a friend of mine- my writing teacher- was here for the first time and she said- never having been here before- "did I just see a cat- black and white?"
Got chills.
Hope this isn't too - you know- morbid of me....I just think love doesn't end. Maybe we just change shape.....
Cat Heaven.
The little guy would sneak up on the bed when I was meditating and put a paw on my hands- then take it away when I opened my eyes. Do-de-do-de-do-de-do-de...

daniel,
I think that some pets do activate the soul vibrations of previous connections to other beasts in us. So at last in that sense they are still there.

I have two cats and twos dogs... but my boy is the one thing that has always been there... I've had him since I was five, and I don't know what I'd ever do without him. When I'm having a hard day I always find myself just sitting there holding him.

I love your animal friends, Jen. They are all beautiful. I also have my "boy" at home, my almost twelve year old cat, Einstein. He has been through two failed relationships with me, and several moves. He talks to me and snuggles with me when I am down or sick. I will miss him so much when he is gone, but he has come back from the brink of illness and imminent death twice now, so I guess he at least has three or four lives, if not nine.....

Cute pets everyone! I love mine too - 2 dogs and 2 cats. But, when I'm with my horse, spending time, riding, grooming, talking - all my worries, troubles, all the bad just disappears and it's all good. Something about horses, to me, makes it all okay. And, if I need to cry, just bury my face in their neck and let the tears roll out. Eventually, I get a warm furry hug, and possibly a lick (or nip  ) and a "stop crying mom and let's go for that ride!" There is no therapy or counseling session as effective as an hour or two with my beautiful horse. When I'm riding, it's like just the 2 of us in the world, one with nature. incredible feeling, not sure I can live without it!

Well, thanks for the encouragement, guys, but I'dd have to throw out the bed, the T.V., the computer, the 'fridge, and ALL of the bookshelves, and there still wouldn't be room in the appartment.

I have two dogs and three cats...and the only time they are still enough to get a non blurry picture of them is when they're sleeping! But, like Vanessa, I find so much peace and comfort in the holiday season. I used to have fits, and suffer the full effects of the December Dilemma (what some Jews go through when everyone on the planet suggests they have a Merry Christmas). The vision presented when the hanukkiah is lit on the eighth day, and the lights are down low, and the glow of snow outside through the window...it just takes my breath away. It's like G-d's peace, love and warmth all rolled into one, and I can believe, if only for the duration that the candles burn, that miracles can happen, and we will see peace in our lifetime.
You'll all have to wait until December 23rd before I can get a picture of my own, but I found one comparable on the web:

Hey! Why doesn't anyone have fish?
My work buddy (and cube neighbor) had a gorgeous purple male beta fish, Mr. Fish. Well, Mr. Fish and I had a great relationship, I always fed him, made sure his bowl was clean and he was comfortable, and the two of us had great conversations. He was so friend, and had no problem letting me know when he was hungry. Then one day, after months of being together, we came in to work from a weekend and found him floating. He was gone, to wherever good fish go when they leave this earth. My friend and I had a brief but touching funeral in the bathroom and then I flushed. Only my tears poured heavier than the water in the bowl. :'(
Later, many of my co-workers (and reported friends) never ceased to let me know how weird I was, and how funny they thought our little funeral and my sadness was. See, most people would never think to find a true friend in the form of a little purple fish......
I've lost too many fish friends, but maybe someday we'll add a tank of the beautiful swimmers in our home... :)
