Hello, My name is Dixie. My partner, Patty, and I moved to Kissimmee, Florida from Illinois this past August. It has been a bit slow getting established with the Gay Community in Orlando, but I didn't see a Soul Force chapter listed for Orlando anyway. I very much want to be a part of the work you do. Even before I read Mel White's "Good Religion Gone Bad", I have looked for ways to fight for our rights without being reduced to the tactics used by "fundamentalist Christians". I believe in the teachings of Jesus and in the Constitution of the United States. I have carried my Constitution around with me for over 20 years. I am personally devastated by the direction America is heading:( . What can I do to be a part of this work?

welcome to our forums. what can you do? well, for one thing, post often! we love to talk here! as you post, and talk about issues with forum members I think you'll begin to see what is possible for you. I know that it works this way for me, and the people here give me courage to stand up for myself. I hope I give some of that back to them.

Good luck settling into your new home/community.

If you receive updates from Soulforce, check out the various actions planned for 2007 and see if any of them are a fit with you. If none are right now, check locally - I imagine FL has GLBT advocacy groups that you can be part of. I'm sure there's something that needs you right now!

Meanwhile, come back and visit the forum some more!

I am glad you are in the SoulForce Community. Just jump right in whatever is on your mind. I hope you van find a gay community in Orlando. i am sure there are some. I live in AL on the Columbus, GA line. I have found a gay-affirming church in Columbus. Alabama is not the best place to be if you are GBLT:( i don't know about FL but it could not be any worse than AL.:'(
I hope you will find gay santuary in Soul Force.
