I'm new to the forum, having just learned about it from a friend at Iowa State. I've been at Colgate University since 2000, having moved here from Berekely/San Francisco, where I lived for 30 years. Parents and family are here, and it was time to get out of the city. In addition to my "real" job at Colgate, I'm doing lots of local activist work around lgbtq issues, including the publication of a newsletter called Out and About which goes to faculty, staff, students, and a gay/lesbian alumni listserve. In the past three years, the LGBTQ Supporters Network, working with Rainbow and Advocates on campus, has completely changed the climate for queer people -- a truly remarkable accomplishment at a traditionally macho Greek campus. Last year we had the first ever Big Gay Weekend with students and staff from other Northeast colleges and a drag ball on Saturday night. People, both straight and queer, loved it! Looking forward to seeing what others are doing. :)
