Andrew Sullivan has written a typically erudite and persuasive piece in the current issue of The New Republic entitled "An Inconvenient Truth" about Mary Cheney's pregnancy and how it throws into sharp relief the contradictions in the current positioning and politics of the Republicans vis-a-vis gay marriage.
The full article requires a subscription, I believe, and is viewable here (http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20061225&s=sullivan122506).

I didn't read the article and I wouldn't give Sullivan my money.
I did, however, send him an email recently to express appreciation for his turnabout in no longer kissing up to the Bush administration and the right wing, and in finally realizing these people are legitimate enemies of LGBT people and our quest for equality under the law.
He replied that he had not changed at all but it was the right wing which had gone "crazy." He seemed to think that was a very recent change.
I suggested to Sullivan that he carefully examine his own benefit of class, education, white male privilege and material addiction in order that he might understand the connections of all oppressions, including LGBT oppression, in a less selfish light.
He did not respond. I suspect his left turn is temporary and he will once again become a brownnoser to the right wing. After all, he doesn't have to do their hair or decorate their mansions. He actually gets to have cocktails at the polo club with them. Perhaps that's how he gets so confused about what their social and political intentions for LGBT people have been all along.
