It's been tough to get into the Christmas spirit this year (mostly because of an insane workload at the office), but today I was inspired by a fellow composer to recycle the foundation of an earlier piece and create an unusual take on the traditional Christmas plainchant "O Come, O Come Emmanuel."

Hope everyone had a merry and restful holiday!

It's been an interesting Christmas season so far. (And let's not forget: there are 12 days, right? Until January 6th when the Magi arrive!)
Hubby and I went to the Met Museum two days ago- a place we never tire of going to- and saw the Christmas Tree (another thread actually) and on the way back caught the angel at the Bethesda Fountain on camera- the same one that plays prominently in Angels in America (I think she/he crashes throught the ceiling in the play and film). Swans on the lake looked on. They were joined by a gaggle of geese and ducks- all homing in looking for a handout. Smart birds.
Chistmas Eve, we went to Hubby's church (where he plays the organ) and then went merry making with the rector and his boyfriend. Great steak and great conversation. Got up early this morning and went to the corner for a few errands and saw the remains of a car which had plowed into a lamp post- an accident that had only happend 10-15 minutes before. The ambulance was pulling away- lucky for the driver- the hospital is only 10 blocks away.
Voyeur that I am, I ran home and grabbed my camera so I could send a picture to the block assocation.
"Honey! You won't believe what just happened! Some lady took out the lamp post and narrowly missed crashing into the new store on the corner. She must have been going 80 miles an hour. Why would someone be doing that at 8 in the morning?! The police wouldn't tell me if she was Ok, but I saw that her airbag deployed. Hope she's Ok. The parked car doesn't have a scratch."
The lamp posts on our area are restored to look like they are Victorian era and made out of cast iron. Heavy cast iron.
One guy realizes- again- just how lucky- or blessed- he is. He would have been walking on that sidewalk 15 minutes earlier if he hadn't turned over in bed and stared at the ceiling-thinking of 'sugarplums'- right when Miss-Speeding-Too-Fast-For-Reaons-Unknown almost plowed into the clothing store with the plate glass windows and was stopped dead cold by a green lamp post. It may have saved her life.
Makes me think we're all blessed.

Merry Christmas, friends! Here's somethin' I sent to my family, since they almost never get to hear me sing. The recording is not so good...but a little Spanish lullaby by Manuel de Falla (http://www.operality.info/christmascard.html).
Peace, peace, peace to everyone.:dove:

Hey Dash -
Thanks for sharing the recording. Hubby and I both enjoyed your lovely voice - he went on a bit, enthused about the lightness of your tone production. ;)
If you're ever in AZ, pop on by and sing for us!!

Ah, such a fine manly baritone. Thanks for sharing this with us!
James
Thanks Zerbie and James for your kind words. And, James, don't be decieved it's a tenor instrument, even though I do eat from the fruit of the baritone tree. Actually, as I have lightened my vocal production in the last year and a half, the resonance has deepened somewhat...even as the range has extended in both directions.
Also James, I want to tell you that I played your music for my friend who recently finished her yoga certification (she's also a singer...mezzo). She loved it (as did I), so I took a moment to show her your website.

Wow Dash - amazing!!! Post more please!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! My partner and I spent the day at her parents with mom's side of the family. Her sister and bro-in-law were here for a couple weeks from Hawaii - they returned home yesterday (sob, sob..). We had a great time, they are such a wonderful family and have been so kind and accepting of me.
My sweetie and I had a private Christmas morning at home with our pets which was wonderful as well!
My sister and her family spent Saturday evening with our other sister - my partner is not welcome to their home so I don't attend (and am not invited), and with my father and stepmother. A major step was taken when our other sister announced the presents from both of us (yes, my partner's name was actually SPOKEN in their house!). I was a little surprised, progress has been virtually non-existent.
Anyway, a bit of sunshine in our rainy December!
