I hope that we hear more about this, and I hope that there will be various petitions circulating, and I hope that each one of us will ask politely and/or call in favors, twist arms, etc. to get friends onboard.

The new congress will be sworn in by the end of the week, and then they will have a Huge amount on their plate, given the do-nothing last bunch, so they will have to be reminded, but they have staff for that, to keep track of the paperwork.

A Democratic congressman from Massachusetts said he will reintroduce a bill to repeal the military's ban on openly gay and lesbian soldiers.
Rep. Marty Meehan said 112 members of Congress from both parties have signed on to co-sponsor the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, which would end the armed services' "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

In a recent Zogby International poll, nearly three-fourths of all military members serving in Iraq or recently returned home say they don't care if someone in their unit is gay. If gay men and lesbians were allowed to serve openly, the respondents said, it would have had no effect on their decision to enlist.
