Hello, New Friends,
I've been excited to discover an on-line community with depth, tolerance, and humility. I feel as though I can learn a lot here.
I'm recently divorced from a man who is a conservative Christian, very pro-James Dobson. For years I have lived face to face with intolerance masked as righteousness. I am afraid of the Christian right - I can't seem to shake it. They seem big and powerful to me.
My girlfriend is in seminary in Atlanta, and will probably become a minister. She says that there are a lot more Christians in the world who don't buy the Dobson line, but I need to experience some of them myself.
I have young children and am contemplating coming out to them (and my ex) this year. He and his family are very close to the children, and who knows what they will say to the children about me.
I live in California, where, according to my lawyer, my ex-husband will be held accountable by the law for saying only positive things about his children's mother. He will also be required to protect them from his family's comments. This gives me some relief. I'm grateful to live here.
Besides raising three children, I'm a writer and website designer. Does anyone else live in the Bay Area?
Sincerely,
Lisa
