Hello, New Friends,

I've been excited to discover an on-line community with depth, tolerance, and humility. I feel as though I can learn a lot here.

I'm recently divorced from a man who is a conservative Christian, very pro-James Dobson. For years I have lived face to face with intolerance masked as righteousness. I am afraid of the Christian right - I can't seem to shake it. They seem big and powerful to me.

My girlfriend is in seminary in Atlanta, and will probably become a minister. She says that there are a lot more Christians in the world who don't buy the Dobson line, but I need to experience some of them myself.

I have young children and am contemplating coming out to them (and my ex) this year. He and his family are very close to the children, and who knows what they will say to the children about me.

I live in California, where, according to my lawyer, my ex-husband will be held accountable by the law for saying only positive things about his children's mother. He will also be required to protect them from his family's comments. This gives me some relief. I'm grateful to live here.

Besides raising three children, I'm a writer and website designer. Does anyone else live in the Bay Area?

Sincerely,
Lisa

Welcome Lisa!

I feel for you, so I'm putting you into my prayers immediately!

I am a gay man who spent entirely too many years in a straight marriage. My ex-wife isn't exactly a conservative christian, but I was amazed at the things she did in the name of religion, and how quickly she became that "good christian" after I left and came out.

this is a great community. we're here for you, I'm sure you'll see that very quickly. and yes, there are plenty of christians who are not like Dobson et al. the conservatives/fundies have a loud voice, but they don't speak for all christians, and I dare say that they don't speak for the majority of christians.

jump into the discussions!

I am sure that you will find support and acceptance here, as well as an amazing number of stories, comments and people that you will enjoy reading about. I encourage you to read the threads, make some posts, and meet the people.

I might advise you to make preperations carefully before coming out, but this must be up to you. I/we wish you success and happiness. :agree:

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

Hey girl! Remember, kids are usualy way cooler and more accepting than grown-up in all things. As for the Christian right... Well I did this whole english paper on what certain ministries have been up to, and I must say, I don't see them counting among real Christians. Those who condem others for such things go right against the teaching of the New Testament. Down right hypocritical. Any-a-ways, way off tangent, Steve seems pretty cool. Hi Steve! Neat to see a cool Christian. Whatever. With such things in mind, I know the perfect metaphor: Those standing in the sunshine may be hiding things that those in the moonlight allow illuminated and free. Squidy...now I'm trying to be profound. Look at all the treible tangents! I might just be ADD...

BYE AND LOVE AND COOLNESS AND STUFF AND WHATEVER!
