I just read a quote by Abraham Lincoln that said, "Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally." Well I am going to substitute "a ban on gay marriage" for slavery and say, "Whenever I hear anyone arguing for a ban on gay marrige, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally."

Well of COURSE they scream bloody murder. I guess the way they (those opposed to equality) see it is, they're normal and gays aren't. I have a friend who we go back about 16 years, still opposes marriage equality on the grounds that gay people "need to understand that they are different."

Actually, I think the exclusion of gay couples from societal recognition generally, inclusive of the legal issues, is the biggest factor in perpetuating the attitude that they are different.

I imagine that your friend has no understanding of his own projections- that is- anything 'other' is best left our of his awareness and understanding.
