Apparently, the AFA is claiming this as a victory. After reading the article, we need to get enough support for LGBT programming. Luckily, there is LOGO, a LGBT cable channel, and Here!, etc. on pay-per-view, but broadcast television needs to promote positive LGBT programming.

I only watched the first 30 minutes of the two-hour premiere episode of The Book of Daniel. With all the press surrounding the show, I suddenly felt like we were sending a losing team to the big game. I wasn't impressed, but then again, I'm a pretty big critic of movies and tv.

Anyhow, I would like nothing better than to expose the American Family Association for what they truly are -- a fundamentalist organization whose heart's desire is to mold the United States into a neo-conservative theocrazy (misspelling intentional) where gays are driven back into closets, progressive values like inclusion and equality and kept from being realized, and the teachings of radical prophets like Jesus and Dr. King remain behind stained-glass windows of the few churches that do hear and understand.

Here is what my dog, Ezri (who doesn't like people who work to oppress others) thinks of the AFA.

Jamie, you come up with the weirdest things!!!!!!!

Thanks for that!

I *was* just going to post that, gee, the AFA has become nothing else but a hate group. I think Southern Poverty Law Center actually lists them as one (not sure, but they might.)

But now I just have to laugh my *** off!

American Family Association Exposed (http://www.netdisaster.com/go.php?mode=worms&url=http://www.afa.net/)

When I let this one run for a minute, it brought to mind the story of Jesus as told in Matthew chapter twenty-three, where he publicly attacks (verbally) the religious leaders who block people from God's love. Nothing, it seems, got Jesus more upset than religion gone bad.

"You're hopeless, you religion scholars and Pharisees! Frauds! You're like manicured grave plots, grass clipped and the flowers bright, but six feet down it's all rotting bones and worm-eaten flesh. People look at you and think you're saints, but beneath the skin you're total frauds." (The Message)

I will have to wait until I get home to follow those links, the filter here at work won't let me go there. We've stopped trying to figure out the reasons, we merely accept that "Bess won't go there"

As far as Daniel; you wouldn't believe the heated debate this has caused in another forum that I post in. It's actually gotten ugly, mostly because there are a few ultraconservatives who, like others, are the vocal minority. They won't be swayed by the facts.

I watched the show, with the exception of last friday's episode. I didn't think it was written all that well, but the content was no more shocking than other standard primetime soap fare. So why all the noise about this one? Why did AFA choose to go after NBC and this show, and leave Desperate Housewives alone? Could it be that NBC is in 3rd place in the ratings? It seems that the AFA goes after the companies that have some weakness. Ford is struggling. Wal-Greens suffers from competition with Wal-Mart. Why don't they go after Avis, or Mercedes, or Orbitz or Travelocity? These companies advertise in GLBT media.

Back to Daniel: Did anyone here find the portrayal of Jesus to be disrespectful or blasphemous? AFA seemed to think so. I found it rather convincing that Jesus would show up just as Daniel was popping Vicodin! Then Jesus would ask some pointed questions about his need for the pills.

Again, the AFA is very much like the Pharisees, building walls, excluding people, heaping loads on christians that even they can not carry. Hello, Larry Latham???

I am so upset that The Book of Daniel has been canceled! :'( I loved the show. Oh well I guess I will just have to stick to watching Martha, Passions, and Desperate Housewives.

Like you mentioned keltic why is it that they went after NBC not something else?

I put that question to the people in the other forum, and I was actually given a link to onemilliondads, which turns out to be a puppet organization for the AFA. onemilliondads has been successful in persuading some advertisers to pull their sponsorship of DH and Shield. That's interesting, but I wonder why there has been no hype about it.
