View Full Version : Spiritual Survey: What Type Are You?

I just took this survey on explorefaith.org. I came out a "lover." Give it a try. What do you think?

http://www.explorefaith.org/seeker/index.html

I realize that there is a sort of gimmickry about this kind of thing. I found the questions difficult to answer because I wanted to check off more than one answer in several categories. If I had answered differently, I suppose the results would have been different.

All in all, I found the questions thought-provoking, almost annoying.

I agree the test seems a little manipulative, maybe. The result is pretty close to how I see myself, though. So, what the heck.

Now if I compare it to the other tests I took - you know, the layers of hell - what do I make of that?

A companion in purgatory? Hmmm.

I thought love was
Only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else
But not for me
Love was out to get to me (duhda duhda)
That's the way it seems (duhda duhda)
Disappointment haunted
All my dreams (dadadadadadadada)

And then I saw His face!
Now I'm a believer! Yeah!
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
(drumroll)
I'm in love (ooooo!)
I'm a believer
I couldn't leave Him
If I tried:love:

Fun quiz

Interesting. it says I'm a seeker. that I have a healthy skepticism and would question God if we ever met. I'd be willing to be that if I took the test on a different day I'd have a different result. Fun to do though!

It said I was a MAVERICK.
I don't know if that is all that positive or not.
Will have to think on that one.

And I know I'm not nearly as much of a Christian as the questions ask for.

Well, I got "lover" and it's fairly close a description of me. But I answered at random because in almost every question, at least 3 answers were equally much true. I'm probably several of those "types" in nearly equal proportions.

Seeker. Which I suppose is true from a certain vantage point. And while I didn't expect this 'test' to be anything more than amusing, I found myself hemming and hawing at the assumption-laden questions. Felt like I was answering a consumer survey. God as managed product.

Maybe I'm just cranky and have to keep seeking.

I agree. Without prejudicing the results, I wanted to see if anyone else felt slightly manipulated or felt like more than one answer fit them. But it was "cute" and I guess could be an icebreaker for someone who hasn't delved too deeply into things spiritual.

Our church "belongs" to explorefaith.org, meaning it contributes material to it, links to it from its website, and is listed on the explorefaith web site.

Ben: I too found a number of questions that didn't have just one response for me. Not surprisingly, I turned out to be a seeker, which is how I've described myself pretty much throughout my life. Thanks for recommending the survey, I like those kinds of challenges.

Thinker. But I think I knew that going in. ;) I've done enough spiritual gifts assessments to be able to tell a pretty good tool when I see it. This one forces answers that assume a more concrete experience of God than most folks probably have. A survey with less of a theistic bent would probably be a better fit for those who don't use god-language comfortably. It wouldn't work at all for non-theistic religions. Still, by focusing on the experience (and allowing that lots of poeple will substitute "spirituality" or "holiness" or "ultimate meaning" for "God," and not asking so much for the contents of faith, it gives enough to go on. I also like the book recommendations it gave. Thanks for posting it.

The test revealed that I am a seeker. I can see how one might give different answers depending on where you are in your life at that time. But at this time in my life, I am seeking Him. Seeking new answers. I would ask God a lot of questions! I am seeking a better understanding of our Glorious Savior! Cool!

Your post got me thinking about how we respond to things based on our view- or one might say-container. And that, in my mad musician's mind, reminded me of Caspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors (Menotti) who sings: "This is my box, this is my box, I never travel without my box!" Of course, when he opened his up, there was licorice inside!

Daniel,
Ha! Yours may be a mad musician's mind, but what a great illustration! Caspar's box is just like the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual boxes we all carry around with us, in which we try to cram everything we want to understand, whether it really fits the box or not. Of course, now I can't get the music out of my head. Thanks a lot.

Another Maverick on the scene.

Wasn't expecting that, but quite proud to be in the company of Pablo, as many of you know, he rocks the Casbah....

David, I thought I was all alone being a maverick. It is good to have company. We mavericks are at the top of the group you know; that's why there are so few. (Not that I don't think all types are equal; it's just some are more equal than others.) And your kind words of praise. I could let it go to my head if I weren't so humble. As you know, its one of the best of my MANY good qualities. ;)

And Daniel, no comments from you! I remember that uncalled for remark you made about me and pride. Pride indeed! There's not a proud bone in my body.

Tu (most humble) Amigo, Pablo

I got thinker. No surprise there. My friends, family, and even my boyfriend could have told you that. Hah, I saw the possible results and thought maybe I'd get love, but nope. Slave to logic much?

Mavericks may rule- just as long as they do not forget who's shoulders they are standing on. :D Us lowly Seekers being at the bottom of the heap.

I'm a lover too, apparently. For most of the questions, however, I could have answered every single answer.
