Renaissance fair or Renaissance festival[1] is an outdoor weekend gathering ostensibly focused on recreating life as it was during the English Renaissance, a period usually set during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I , but sometimes earlier, during the reign of Henry VIII.

Because i think that not many people on this board are into that kind of thing.

What say you?

Ha! Renaissance Faire? I'm a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (http://www.sca.org), which beats the renfair hollow for both fun potential and sheer unabashed nerdiness.

No offense to the fairfolk. Some of my best friends are Rennies...

I've gone to several at The Cloisters here in NYC. They were fun. A good friend of mine made his living performing at Fairs and used to regal me with Tales- he performed on stilts. Alas- he has passed from the World of Men- and traveled to the Havens. Thanks for your post- reminded me what a sweet man he was.

I LOVE Renaissance Faires!!!! It's been a long time since I've been to one, but the requisite field trip for my high school was to the Shakespearean Festival in Oregon...not as fun as the Festival I went to in Colorado...I was 16, and had to go all the way to Colorado from California to have my first California Cooler...sad, eh?
Still and all, I would love to go to a Faire. It's a wonderful departure from the norm, and just plain fun!

Probably about 15 years ago I was at a Renaissance fair in southern California north of San Bernardino toward Cajon Pass. It was a lot of fun. It was blazingly hot, however. It was quite an extensive affair and was good for the whole day.

Out here in the remote Rocky Mountain west we don't have anything like that close. In fact nothing is close except the beauty and spectacle of the great outdoors.

I went to innumerable SCA events throughout high school and college. Was nearly a member, but had so many commitments with theater that I didn't have time for learning how to make clothings, etc, like my friends who were gifted with patterns and sewing machines, so always ended up tagging along with friends who were regular members. Those of my close friends who weren't theater pro's (or aspiring to be) were SCA members. At one event, I even won a flirting contest that I didn't know was happening. I was just there for the dancing, not to mention hangin' with my buds. ;)

Didn't make it to a Renn Faire til a few years ago. Hubby has several family members in the cast at the Faire in Texas. Had a great time visiting that too, though being used to SCA I found it odd to be dressed in mundane clothes while most of those I was hanging out with were elaborately garbed. But the theatrical personality style still applies, so I felt very at home that way. ;)

I attended several when I was a kid. I never dressed up, but I still had a great time looking at all of the booths, etc.
