make it do, or do without.

Ok, so I don't always do the best when it come to that saying, but I do find myself doing things that would be considered "frugal"

I hit the jackpot last night: I stopped by a winemaker's supply store ( I make my own wine) to pick up some small supplies. The owner had some varietal juices in bulk, leftover from a fall trip to Erie wine country. It is well on it's way to becoming wine already. I got 5 gallons of Niagara grape juice for $5/gallon (good deal since I didn't have to drive to Erie) and that means in a few months I will have about 30 bottles of wine at a cost of $1/bottle!!!!

Don't even think of saying it, I know I'm a cheap drunk.

I stopped by our local Wine and Spirits establishment to pick up a bottle of red wine for dinner (Sterling Merlot). They were having a cognac tasting and I was offered a few swigs of a 75 year old French cognac called Tesseron. It was amazing! Then I almost dropped the glass when I saw that the bottle was almost $300!

My favorite Aunty who was not named Mame (though that was her relationship to me) taught me a great trick. Pour about teaspoon full of brandy into a glass of champagne. It makes bad champagne bearable, mediocre champagne really good and pretty good champagne Dom Perignon. The better the brandy the better the results of course but even E and J works great. Try it next time you pop the bubbly and let me know how brilliant my Aunty was.
