I came across the following quote while reading Creating True Peace by Thich Nhat Hanh:

When you can transform the war and violence in yourself, then you can truly begin to help others find peace.

At first, I read right through it. Then I backed up and said a long, mental "Ooohhhh." :agree: The sentence started on the bottom of an odd-numbered page and finished on the top of the next, which meant I had to flip the page, so it wasn't all there in one spot to view in its totality.

Ok, I'm going to 'fess up. The worst place for me is in the car. I got cut off four times on the way home from work. And I so wanted to yell and scream and flip the bird. :smashy: :headbang:  Deep breaths. Find your center, Ben.

Anyways, I have made the quote my signature, as you can see below.

For the record, you're not alone with road-related anger. i'm frequestly shocked at what comes out of my mouth when i get cut off in traffic! :o

It's something i continue to struggle with. :shifty: Deep breaths, indeed.

I once wrote an article on nonviolence and driving. It is the best place to practice nonviolence.

You can read it here

I'm so glad I don't drive, seeing that I live in the City! ;) But I still get my nonviolence workout at the local Market. Walk in there anytime and the crunch can be unbelievable- pushy people with carts digging into your ankles from behind, the 'nice' old lady who cuts in front of 10 people because she only has one item and says "You don't mind do you? I'm in a hurry! Thanks sooooo much!" And my mouth is open- ready with a quip - and nothing comes out but a silence scream.

Plenty of opportunity to practice.

And don't you just love the rudeness of some drivers who have the fish symbol on the back? That is my personal favorite.

Before describing, in exquisite detail, their ancestry, intelligence or lack thereof, total lack of manners, morals, and general interpersonal awareness, and unquestioned afterlife destination, ROLL UP THE WINDOWS!

Hoping to find perfection, if not in this life, then in the next, Bruce Chris

PS, I'll work on that one, Ben
