I'm 20 (21 in April), and sort of a student (I'm taking a semester off right now). I was raised Catholic, bounced in and out of Catholic schools and ended up in an all-boys' Catholic highschool. I'm fairly sure I would have wandered away from Cathlicism had I been straight, but being gay didn't help anything. I'm also a former Boy Scout. I found this site because it was in some gay news somewhere, and I was immediately attracted because it seems like there's no one doing any direct action anymore. There's you guys, and the Lesbian Avengers (they're not in my area, but I'm pretty sure they're still active), and that's sort of all I could find. I'm looking to get more involved with queer activism.

So...hi.

Hi Tim,
:)
Welcome! SF is a good group.

If you don't mind the question, I'm curious how you ended up with Alecto for a screenname (of course if it's personal or anything you don't have to tell us.)

Hi Tim,
:)
Welcome! SF is a good group.

If you don't mind the question, I'm curious how you ended up with Alecto for a screenname (of course if it's personal or anything you don't have to tell us.)

Wikipedia (great reliable source, right?) quotes Alecto as translating to "unceasing". While I'm not exactly going for vengeance, I do aspire to be unceasing in my persuit of justice. It's...sort of a self-motivator thing: build the reputation of the person you want to be to help pressure yourself into becoming and staying that person.

Activism? This must be a golden age of Gay Activism. Join a group, join several, write letters to the editor, move to the big city, where all of the groups have membership, (Get a sex-change, and then join the Lesbian Avengers? Well, maybe not), become a writer, or better yet, an editor of an Episcopalian newspaper, go on an Equality Ride, or maybe just ask Zerbie. Seems she took ForEVER to figure that one out, so she must be an expert.

Or, you're young, you can take your time. - Google gay anything.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

Welcome from me, too!

My tender years (1-10) were spent in Western NY State, actually: Village of East Aurora, about 20 miles SE of Buffalo.

Oh...the SNOW! (Maine was nothing in comparison.)
