My name is Dante, and I heard some of your excellent student speakers at your stop in Sioux Center on the campus of Dordt College. I am a teacher and not a Midwesterner. I was very impressed by how articulate and moving your equality riders were in their testimonies.

I am a Christian and the young woman who spoke about her struggle as a gay Christian on the campus of Eastern moved me to tears. She exhibited both a strong faith and a courageous personality. While I am not gay, I have long been a supporter of social justice for GLBT persons, especially those who seek acceptance and encouragement in the Christian church. I am especially interested in the promotion of legislative change to bring GLBT human rights to the attention of lawmakers and the courts where they need to be addressed.

I noticed you will be going to my own alma mater on your trip east and hope you find an accepting audience and loving atmosphere because I believe this to be consistent with the teachings of Christ.

I would be interested in communicating with Christians in particular, because I am very familiar with evangelical circles and hope I can continue to be of encouragement. Peace, Dante

Let me the first to welcome you.

While I am also in Iowa, I am quite aways from you. While there were some tense moments, it sounds as if Dordt did a much better than usual job of welcoming and dialoguing with the Riders.

Do you find it difficult, being GLBT friendly and at a school that historically views homosexuality a sin? I have a friend who is a professor of Hebrew at a conservative school, while being pro-GLBT. Overall, while having to sqelch his feelings about that issue, he feels a deep comradery with his fellow faculty and students.

Anyway, welcome. I think you find a small, but verbal, number of evangelical Christians within our ranks.

There are many honest, loving Christians here, not all of us Evangelical. And many others who are honest and loving, but not Christian. Thank you for your nice note. There is more and more evidence that all aspects of our sexuality are determined before birth, although not necessarily genetically. Many of us, whether we believe that or not, see our sexuality as a gift from god. Please come back and chat, or post to any of our discussions.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

You are indeed most welcome here. If you ever just want to dialogue, ask questions, or what not feel free too here.

Thank you for being someone who is supportive of GlBT individuals. People like you will help make the world a better place for all.
