Hello! I found out about Soulforce almost a year ago but just now registered, even though I've been following what's been going on and getting e-mails from the site. I participated in the walk and vigil at Focus on the Family back in June or July (July?) and it was a wonderful experience. I'm currently going to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley but I'm originally from Monument, which is about 30 minutes from Colorado Springs.

I've only met a few people who have had "problems" with my sexual orientation (lesbian) and they mostly say the same thing and quote the Bible. I'm really glad Soulforce has so many amazing resources because now I know how to respond to what some people have told me about their views on the Bible.

I also have a friend who thought it was disgusting about a year ago but she has since changed her mind (after watching Brokeback Mountain) and understands that gay people are just like everyone else.

So that's my semi-long semi-on topic introduction, thank you so much Soulforce for doing all these amazing things (and the sit-in: I hope it goes well, I was really glad to read that the Equality Ride was going to do that).

I've been wandering around the site and I'm so glad to find so many good discussions, unlike some discussions I've found elsewhere where people post just to argue and have no intention of even hearing the other side.

Thanks for the photo compliment - I work at a Renaissance Festival. :p

As for activism - I really want to jump in and do more, but I'm not sure what to do from a pretty gay-friendly town. I hope to be able to participate with Soulforce again sometime because I loved my experience with them before. I'm trying to practice nonviolence on my own, so I hope I'm doing it right, I haven't quite been trained in the area but I've read a lot of the information on it here.

More about myself! I'm maybe a bit eccentric and I love musicals with a passion. I just finished (a few weeks ago) making an Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors, the man-eating plant. Mine's made out of fleece so it's not too deadly, but it's the first thing I've ever sewn before.

I'm also an avid reader (well, not so much as late but I am reading Dracula when I'm not on the internet and going to class). My favorite author is Carol Berg, my second favorite is Robin Hobb. Also, I'll be applying for a job at a bookstore soon after I figure out who to put down as references - for me, it's the ideal job (and Ren Fest).

Last semester I went to a panel discussion set up by the GLBT Resource Office here and I think I'd like to be part of one, if they have another one coming up soon.

I also play the oboe, but not for terribly much longer because I'm getting burnt out with band.

Welcome Skye!

Great intro, great picture! How cute - love the garb!

In high school and undergrad, most of my friends were SCA members, and now I have a husband whose family is all bound up in the Texas Renn Faire. Your profile pic brings up many fond memories for me, since it reminds me of all those nice things.

Sounds like you have more than enough to do! Keep in touch with us - jump in on some of the other discussions when ya want.

Ren Fest is wonderful. That's actually where I started questioning my sexuality. I'm excited to go back in a few months.

Currently I've been reading more than posting, but I'll jump in the bulk of the conversations soon enough. :D

Skye,

I am glad to read your intro and to welcome a fellow person from Colorado. (I live down in the other part of the state, the southwest.)

It is encouraging to hear of your friend who has changed her mind about those of us who are LGBT. One person at a time is how changes on a large scale start. I see more equality and fairness in the future.

I look forward to more of what you have to say. Thanks for joining our friendly little group.

Tu Amigo, Pablo

Oh how neat, I've already met someone semi-near to me! I've only been down nearish the southern border of the state once on an orchestra trip to Can~on City.

I'm also encouraged by my friend changing her mind. I used to think people with views like that would never change them, but she proved me wrong! And in a very good way.
