I truly appreciate what Soulforce is doing especially with this years Equity ride and going to the University of the Cumberlans. I graduated from Cumberland in 1986. Below is a text of an email I will be sending to the president of Cumberland in response to the most recent solicitation of money. If you have any suggestion, edit (I am awful at spelling and my grammer isn't much better  )

Dear Dr. Taylor,

Thank you so much for you most recent solicitation for money to help Cumberland finish the new science building. However, at this time I must decline.

I find it ironic that you have fashioned the building after Thomas Jefferson’s home Monticello, who as you know wrote our Declaration of Independence, yet you do not offer that same freedoms you so proudly proclaim to all your students and faculty.

With this email, I am writing to let you know, that with every solicitation of money I receive from you I will then donate money to a cause or church that accepting and affirming to all people. My first contribution I have already made is to the Soulforce equity Rider Matt Hill Comer. (https://www.soulforce.org/matt_hill_comer ) I am grateful that with my donation he met his goal of raising 3500.00. Please scroll down and you will see my donation listed.

Dr. Taylor, you once told me how proud you were of what I have done with my life since leaving Cumberland and at that time working for a U.S. Representative. I wish I could say the same about Cumberland but I was extremely disappointed with your handling of Jamie Johnson and his expulsion or whatever you are calling at this time from the University.

Until the University of the Cumberlands is accepting of all people including gay and lesbian students I will decline to offer my financial help to Cumberland and as stated donate money to a cause or organization that is out to fight discrimination of the GLBT community.
Thank you for your time.

Thanks for your imput!!

Thank you for your time.Great Letter !!!! I suggested a few changes above mostly little style and spelling changes to make it flow a little more smoothly (words are my stock in trade!)... but it is a fine letter as is. Use the changes or don't.

Fantastic Alan ... you're my hero of the day!

And from one picky wordsmith to another, U-Dog, I like your suggestions. One little thing ... spelling is euphemism (don't you hate people like us?)

I stared at that damn word trying to figure out what was wrong with it, but I was too lazy to go to the dictionary!

HAHA! Well, anyway, knowing how to spell euphemism, along with $3, will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks (but nothing too fancy).

Thanks everyone you all are too funny. U-Dog I will definately use suggestions in my email make it flow much better!! One saving grace for me is spell check, but that gets me into trouble a lot as well if I spell a word correct but use the wrong meaning....

back when spell check was first invented I tried to use the word "pastoring" and it didn't recognize it. As alternatives it suggested "posturing" and "Pestering" I thought about that and decided that those were as good a substitute as any and better than most!

Well, lets see, there is to and too ..or how about seen and scene...hmmm I'm trying to remember some others that have gotten me into trouble..oh yeah Capital and Capitol... Spell check is wonderful but it can be interesting for me, especially on emails..lol

Thanks everyone for you kind comments.

Good for you, Alan! Great idea ... : )

And on the topic of spell check ... guess what comes up on my spell check when I type "transgender" ... it tries to suggest "transponder" ... so I guess that means we are all supporters of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transponder movement ... wink wink

This limitation of spell check might reflect our society's lack of awareness of the transgender community ... or maybe the spell check is just "pondering" the meaning of transgender ... : )
