Sad bit of news. The article does a good job connecting this event to recent Catholic history and the recent statement from the U.S. Catholic Bishops.

This article is on the website of an organization called "Faith in Public Life." I'm wondering what this organization's stand on the issue is, if any. GLBT rights are not on the list of issues (http://www.faithinpubliclife.org/issues/index.html) they are concerned with.
The website also has a list of Faith Movements for Justice and the Common Good (http://www.faithinpubliclife.org/about/resurgence.html). Most of these groups appear to be at least somewhat left-wing on various issues, but, again, I see no mention of GLBT issues.

I read this with such deep sadness. Remembering when the DC 3 were refused Eucharist at the Shrine, and the depth of our pain, I can't even imagine how hurtful this must be to these two courageous women.
My prayers are with them. I pray they find a welcoming community near them, because I know if I didn't have my own parish community to support me, I'm not sure how I would have been able to stand against it.

Please notice that the article originates with the Associated Press and not with the website "Faith in Public Life." I subscribed to Faith in Public Life some time ago and I get a daily e-mail from them with links to current news stories of interest to persons on the "left" end of the political spectrum. As such, they often carry news of interest to LGBT persons. The articles carry pieces on what the religious right is up to, issues of war and peace, environmentalism etc. I doubt that they could cover faith issues from a progressive perspective without including news of interest to LGBT persons.
Frankly, I never noticed whether they "took a stand" on LGBT issues. I just enjoy the selection of current articles they provide. I think a lot of folks connected with Soulforce might find this service of interest.

It is by no means automatically true that people with a generally "progressive perspective" also favor GLBT rights.
Among evangelicals here in the U.S.A., there's now an emerging trend toward taking left-leaning stands on economic, environmental, and international issues, while remaining very retrograde on social issues such as GLBT rights. This trend is consistent with what has been the official attitude of the Catholic Church for quite some time now. (See the thread Some noteworthy U.S. trends, both good and bad (http://www.soulforce.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2382).)
That's why I was wondering about the attitude of the "Faith in Public Life" organization in particular.
