"The Queer Texas Conference is an action-oriented, 3 day-long educational gathering of youth and students from across Texas to build community and improve the organizational capacity of our movement. The conference will open with the Texas Networking Reception on Friday evening, followed by the Action Summit on Saturday, and a Youth Leadership Summit on Sunday. Action summit sessions will include skills training and dialogues on social identities and intersecting oppressions. As part of a broader social justice movement, we work to create a nation that respects the diversity of human expression and identity and creates opportunity for all."

Don't miss out on this awesome conference this weekend! I will be there "LIVE" and in person, presenting a workshop entitled "Reclaiming Faith: Reconciling Spirituality, Sexuality & Gender."

The info about my presentation:

Reclaiming Faith: Reconciling Spirituality, Sexuality & Gender
As LGBTQ young adults, many of us have heard churches, family members, friends, and public leaders use religious texts to condemn LGBTQ people. "Reclaming Faith" will examine the sources of faith-based bigotry and present a clear and concise response that will reveal the truth and the support we really have in our spiritual texts and histories. This workshop will be meaningful to everyone, whether you are Atheist, Agnostic, Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, etc. You will leave this presentation with 1) A foundational knowledge of how to respond to faith-based bigotry, 2) The awareness of many LBGTQ faith leaders, 3) The freedom to consider the faith journey that inspires you and the power to "dismiss anything that offends your soul."

Confronting Homophobia at Its Source Through Nonviolent Direct Action
This workshop will describe the multimillion dollar misinformation campaign waged by fundamentalist Christianity against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. We will then review the principles of nonviolence taught by Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr., and explore creative ways that direct action can be used to expose and challenge the religious and political leaders who use misinformation to deny civil equality to LGBT people. The workshop, presented by Jeff Lutes (http://www.queertx.org/qtc/speakers.html#JeffLutes), will incorporate PowerPoint and Video presentations, as well as audience participation.

What a fantastic event! and what a wonderful opportunity for you and Jeff, Nathan!. Thanks for doing that. I wish that Texas wasn't so far away! (most of the time I'm just as happy that it is, but I would love to attend your workshops)

Yes, thanks for doing this. Your efforts will make a difference. I love attending these conferences. If I had time (like in summer vacation) I too would support this.
