I am sorry that your mother said what she did.
My own Dad said some pretty awful stuff when I came out to him and my mother. That was years ago. They've come around since then, but it took a while. A good along while actually. But they did.
What your folks need is info, education, talking with other parents who have gay kids. If you can get them interested in PFLAG, that would be great. But some parents, like mine, are to afraid to do this, especially if they are religiously conservative. For them, the process of 'coming out' to themselves about gay stuff takes longer.
Sometimes we have to simply hold on.
Do what you can- and don't sweat the rest.

I wish I could explain why. It truly baffles the mind. Like you say that word and suddenly they think you aren't you anymore.
I'm sorry. :( I don't understand it either.
Let me second Daniel's suggestion of PFLAG. Check out your nearest PFLAG meeting group - go to a meeting. Meet the parents and the families. Then you can decide if you would like to invite your mother to a meeting - or if going to a public meeting is too much for her, invite her to talk on the phone or meet for lunch with one of the "experienced" PFLAG moms.

As members. They really have some stories to tell about having to get up to speed, to change their understandings of things. And some of them have gone to incredible efforts to help their children, when it was needed.
Peace and Love, Bruce Chris
