I am so sorry that you were touched personally by this tragedy and even more sorry for her family. What a burden for the Mom to bear. I will have your community in prayer today.
People don't realize that it is IMPOSSIBLE to judge the speed or distance of an oncoming train !!! -- also it takes more than mile to stop a train going 45 miles an hour so even if the engineer sees you... he can't avoid you. SO MANY people are killed at grade crossings because of this phenomonon. PLEASE EVERYONE BE CAREFUL.
My dad used to sort mail on the trains years ago and hardly a month would go by that they didn't get delayed by their train hitting a vehicle at a crossing. He used to DRILL IT INTO MY HEAD when I first started driving how dangerous railroad crossing can be. It used to be tedious, but I'm glad now that he did.

Teachers have their lives tied up with so many that they are often touched by tragedy in the community where they work. I'm sorry for the family and you and your young students who will certainly notice the empty desk.

Hey Keltic: I just wanted to check in on how you and your students are doing today. It may be rough for a while, but I pray for you all to come through it by leaning on one another. Vanessa

I'm in a different building today, but it is still the talk of the teachers here. they were such a poor family. they have no insurance, little food and little money. Our school will be collecting donations for the family. There's been no word on the condition of the mother, who was critically injured.

I still have not heard about the mother's condition. However, I do know that the community paid for the funeral costs. Teachers here made sure food was sent to the home on the day of the funeral. We've made plans for a permanent memorial here at school for not only this little girl, but other children who have passed in the history of this building.
Today I had the class that this little girl was in. It was strange not having her in the room.
