In an email I recieved from the Human Rights Campaign, Joe Solmonese said this about Thursday's Vote on the Hate Crimes bill:

"Apparently legislators are being so heavily bombarded with calls
and emails from the radical right that some are getting very
nervous about voting for the bill. Knowing how close we are,
that's not good.

EVEN IF YOU'VE ALREADY CALLED YOUR REPRESENTATIVE about
this bill, and even if they've said they'll vote for it, we need
you to pick up the phone RIGHT NOW and remind them of your
support."

Thanks for the reminder, Rick! I just called my congressman. I had also e-mailed him yesterday, along with my senators, should the bill make it to the Senate (for whatever good that will do -- my senators, Isakson and Chambliss, are notoriously anti-gay). My congressman, though, I think will vote to support the bill. At least I hope so!

Thanks Rick.

Red posted this same message, too, so thanks Red! (Her thread is called "urgent")

I hesitate to phone my Rep's office: I went in person and talked for an hour during a meeting, then sent long letters. I hesitate to make a phone call too. But I forwarded the action alert to everyone on my list.

So, call, ya'll!!! :)

I called my congressman, a Catholic who was one of those who introduced that partial-birth abortion ban. His secretary said that "it hasn't yet been decided" what he'll vote, which seems odd, but I asked her to please pass on that I"d appreciate it if he voted 'yes.' I don't suppose he will. I'd never called Congress before, and I was kind of nervous. I would have felt guilty if I hadn't, though- next time, I'll pay closer attention to my HRC emails and write a letter.
