you mention Nirvana to a 16 yr old and they say "it's that classic band isn't it" and you say hey i was there when Nirvana first played.

when someone younger than you refers to Pearl Jam as classic rock.

When you play the last unicorn to your younger sister or brother and they comment on how old and tired the movie looks.

If you know the meaning of "Sike".

If you go to the music store and ask for Joan Jett and the guy says "Who"
If you remember fraggle rock.
When all your favorite toys are suddenly appearing at stores in the retro section...strawberry shortcake, my little ponies, transformers...

when you can remember the days of "Sesame Street" when Elmo wasn't the most hyped character--Big Bird was

You know that "Mr. T" isn't a cleaning detergent

You hear 80s music being played on oldies stations

When you remember when car phones had a wire.

when you actually know how to fix the needle on a record player.

...I like those things, they're only somewhat accurate though, after all about half of those (probably more), made sense to me... and being born in 1991 I'm would not be an 80s kid.

You know you're a 90's kid if...

You've ever ended a sentence with the word "PSYCHE!"

You can sing the rap to "The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air"

You've worn skorts and felt stylish

You yearned to be part of the Baby-Sitters club

You use to love playing with your MY Little Pet Shop

You know that "WHOA" comes from Joey from "Blossom" and that "How Rude!" comes from Stephanie from "Full House"

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You wore a ponytail on the side of your head and had fluffed bangs

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.

You wanted to change your name to "JEM" in kindergarten

You remember reading "Goosebumps"

You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, wax off"

You have pondered why Smurfette was the only female smurf.

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school.

You remember the craze then the banning of slap bracelets and slam books.

You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence...Not...

You knew that Kimberly, the pink ranger, and Tommy, the green Ranger were meant to be together.

You remember "I've fallen and I can't get up"

You remember going to the skating rink before there were inline skates

You ever got injured on a Slip 'n' Slide

You wore socks over leggings scrunched down

" Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack, all dressed in black, black, black, with silver buttons, buttons, buttons, all down her back, back, back" SHE ASKED HER MOTHER MOTHER MOTHER FOR FIFTY CENTS CENTS CENTS TO SEE THE ELEPHANTS ELEPHANTS ELEPHANTS JUMP OVER THE FENCE THE FENCE THE FENCE" he jumped so high high high he touched the sky sky sky and he didnt come back back back til the forth of july ly ly he jumped so low ow ow he stumbed he's toe oe oe and thats the end end end of the elephants show ow ow

You remember boom boxes vs. cd players

You knew what it meant to say "Care Bear Stare"

You remember Alf, the little brown alien from Melmac and Vicki the Robot from "MY Little Wonder"

You remember New Kids on The Block when they were cool

You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved By The Bell"

You played and or collected "Pogs"

You used to pretend to be a MIGHTY MORPHIN Power Ranger and you owned a Skip It

You had at least one GigaPet or Nano and brought it everywhere

You watched the original Care Bears, My Little Pony, and Ninja Turtles

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.(pencils.notebooks.binders.etc.)

You used to wear those stick on earings, not only on your ears, but at the corners of your eyes.

You remember a time before the WB.

You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

You thought it would be so cool to be Alex Mack.

You know the Macarena by heart.. LOL

" Talk to the hand" ... enough said

You thought Brain would finally take over the world

If you remember when Ernest P. Worrell AKA Jim Varney from "ernest goes to camp" started appearing in those commercials for Braum'.

Oh my!

I recognize most of those. Though, Jen, several of the ones on your 90s list are very 80s - especially the sideways ponytail and fluffy bangs.

But I object to the one from the OP about people "start" to call you sir or miss. The first time someone called me "maam" I was 15. My toes curled in horror. The result? Every time someone calls me "maam" to this day, I recall the awful way I felt at having a cute guy a few years older than me call me "maam" out at a restaurant when I was a freshman in high school. I felt like I was his grandmother.

Once, when I was about 19 or 20 I responded to someone calling me "maam" with, "Excuse me - HOW OLD do you think I am?"

When you remember when MTV used to play stuff like Metallica,Queensryche and Van Halan.

If you remember Metallica before they sold out.

If you can jam along to the theme from Miami Vice the show, not the movie.

If you remember when jan Hammer was cool.

if you ever wanted "hammer" pants or ice ice baby.

You remember when MTV actually played Music Videos all the time, and you know that the very first video they played was - Video Killed The Radio Star

if U2 is too "popular" and "mainstream" for you now

You owned a *real* Rubik's cube
You know how to use a rotary phone.
Max Headroom was cool.
You know how (or wanted to be able) to Moonwalk!

Oh, I remember those good old days, when hard rock and heavy metal was popular. My favorite were Guns N Roses, in addition to Metallica. It's all different now in a music industry, and quite frankly I don't like it all. I missed those days.

If you remember what you did when Hulkamania ran wild on you.

You remember when Optimus Prime was a flat face 18-wheeler and Megatron was a Walther P-38 with silencer, scope, and shoulder stock attachments.

You thought the Atari 2600 was the cutting edge of home entertainment.

You saw commercials for Time-Life music products that were available in 3 formats: records, casettes, and 8-track tapes.

You remember when vinyl was something you listened to and not something you wore.

You know you are a child of the 80s when you have to instruct your teen that the best way to keep your polo shirt collar stiff and upright is to spray it with hairspray and iron it, cause the fashion is in again!

When you remember the origianl "heelies", ya know, the shoe with the wheel in the shoe.

When you know that blue eyeliner and mascara were worn together as part of the "glam" of the 80's and not to whiten your eyes or make them look wideopen and rested

My social worker at my job(Ii am an OT)is so cute an 22ish. She heard the Marylin Manson remake of "Personal Jesus" originally by Depeche Mode(80s band)and said " I really like that NEW song Personal Jesus, I didn't ever like any Manson before now...." I was pretty speechless, I didn't have the heart to correct her! LOL LOL:lol:

Since I work in a geriatric facility, and they play all the music that was popular for the 70 and 80 year old clients, I can't wait to find out what type of music they will play for when we get there. Try Ozzy, Duran Duran, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, AC/DC, Talk Talk, etc.....
