I just got off the phone with my 18yo son, Sterling. He has just informed me that he has earned the title of Salutatorian of his graduating High School Class!
I couldn't help myself. The tears were flowing. He worked all year under the assumption that he was #5, and that 3 other students were tied for #2. It seems that the extra credits he took his jr. year, combined with his excellent grade point avg for his sr. year, pushed him into second place. He will be giving a speech at graduation, along with his friend, Ben, who is Valedictorian. I'm bursting with pride.
I'm sure I'll be writing something about this in my blog soon, perhaps after the graduation ceremony. If you'd like to know more about Sterling: here's the article I wrote back in April about another of his achievements. http://keltic.wordpress.com/2007/04/13/music-critic/
oh, I'm going to take advantage and make this a sticky for a few days. You'll forgive a proud dad for this abuse of privilege, won't you?
hahahh!! I love it! What a wonderful suprise! :applause: :award:
Good dad! Good dad!
(Good son too, obviously.)

Congradulations! I'm graduating from my high school this Saturday as a Salutatorian too! Let him know I said great job in the theatre performance. I wish I had that kind of musical talent; it's pretty amazing how good some kids are in high school.

BUMP!
I've put up a copy of my son's commencement speech on my blog:
this terrestrial ball (http://keltic.wordpress.com/2007/06/06/ladies-and-gentlemen-the-speech/)
It was a short, but profound speech, especially coming from an 18yo

that's amazing!!!
congratulations!!! That only shows me what a special, supporting father your son has who has stood by him through thick and thin, driving him to be more of himself, to strive for what seemed impossible, which of course, later on was tackled and became possible!!!:D
