My job performance review, that is.
here's how it went:
Principal comes into my room with the form.
I sign and date it.
Done.
:shifty:
I'm supposed to turn in lesson plans and be observed. The principals are overworked (I have 2 principals because I'm in 2 buildings) and often can't make it to every room for an observation. We are then called in to sign off on a positive observation form.

I mean, it sounds like it is not very anxiety producing to go through the process this way, but certainly not a true assessment of what I assume your teaching strengths are. How are you feeling about it?

I prepare my students for 2 programs every year. My room is across from the office in this building. Music is "outcomes based education" meaning, if the students don't produce, it's a reflection of my teaching skills. The idea of someone with no musical skills coming in to critique my abilities is somewhat absurd. On the other hand, when they see my students in performance, or even hear them singing, playing rhythm instruments, or catch a glimpse of us doing some kind of movement as they pass my classroom door, they've got to understand that I am indeed doing my job. I guess what I'm saying is that what they see and hear coming from my room on a daily basis is a better indication of my teaching strengths than coming in to do a formal observation. The kids freeze up when a principal walks in with a tablet and takes a seat. They automatically assume s/he is there to observe one of them.
I'm ok with signing off on the form. It's not ideal, but then the formal observation isn't either.

That makes sense to me, though. That the proof is in the pudding, so to say. I am glad that it works out better for you this way as well, since it is of no use to have you or the students anxious about it. Just keep doing what you are doing. Let the music live on!!!!! :)
