For some odd reason, and dont ask me why, I was watching the 700 Club last night before I went to bed. The usual stuff was on, you know all the people that have been helped by the 700 Club because they gave their last cent to Pat. I want to know about all the people that have given their last cent and ended up in worse shape, what would Pat say about that?

Anyway, towards the end of the show they did the "Bring It On" section of viewer questions. The question was about adultery and divorce. I forget what Pat said about the specific question, however, I will never forget one single phrase he said. Pat Robertson actually said, "the Bible isnt perfect.":eek: That is a direct quote. I am not kidding. I wish I could have taped it and put it up on YouTube for all to see (on a loop). One of the biggest Bible thumpers out there said that the Bible isnt perfect. Wow, so if the Bible isnt perfect, then maybe he is wrong about homosexuals and gay marriage.

I found it interesting to say the least. Just a little FYI I guess.

Love to all,
Scott

Dawkins, Hitchens and others who concern themselves with the scientific community will, of course, love it. But the folks who dreamed up this....

...may have a problem with it. :D

I've always loved science, for what it says about the capacity for human beings to exercise their curiosity. And the nice thing about science? You have to be able to prove your theories, not just make them up. And the real scientist will, after a lifetime of promoting one idea- perhaps a wrong one- will embrace the one with a firm basis, and turn on a dime.

That's real knowledge for ya....

Well, I would agree that Pat Robertson's understanding of the Bible isn't perfect. It is finally time that he is realizing that.

I really get annoyed with people who think they are perfect. It is irritating to those of us who actually are. :D (That's a joke, by the way.)

I would hesitate to say that the Bible isn't perfect. It would seem to follow that the Bible is flawed, which I don't believe it is.

I believe that the Bible is a sketchy and often figurative picture of an infinte God that cannot be fully expressed in human language.

I believe that our human undestanding is imperfect.
I believe every church body is imperfect.
I believe no point of view is perfect.

But I believe God is perfect and he loves each one of us, flaws and all.

An overenthusiastic bible thumper once tried to tell me that he had the One True Religion, and that he wished to offer me enlightenment.

I replied that I believed that religion was defined as one person's relationship with God, and that there are over 6 billion of us here. I believe that each of us has their own truth; their own truth from God.

So the Words of God can and must have different meanings for each of us, which can and will change with time, and that we must be open to our new understandings, and those of others.

The Great Commandment is Truth Eternal; all else is existential detail.

(I'm starting to sound awfully preachy here, pompous even. I hate that. But I do believe in the basics of what I've said above.)

Or to apply 1st Corinthians, to Pat: "If I am a Televangelist, with hundreds of TV and radio stations, and millions of watts, and I try to tell you that only I understand the Word of God, but do not have Love, I am but as a noisy gong, or banging cymbal"

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

Has it struck anyone that when it came down to Pat evidently being in a bit of a fix for an answer - of the two of them (Pat or the Bible), it was the Bible that was not perfect. Hmmm.

BruceChris, you'll be in great company!!!:D

Andrew, yes, I thought that too. Continue to fail to take any responsibility or admit they might not be as perfect as they try to portray themselves...

I watched The Eyes of Tammy Faye last night. In the bit about the downfall of Jim Bakker (Baker?), it was disgusting to listen to Jerry Falwell talk about 'saving' Jim and his PTL business - when in the end he turned on Jim & Tammy Faye, sticking daggers endlessly into their backs, stealing their company and running it into ruins. Backstabbing, lies, deceit, conspiracy, hate. All in the name of Christ. Now, that's disgusting! Yet people can't get enough of this crap, and they buy into the Christianity aspect. They must not understand Christ and his teachings??
