-Mothman (phone scene)
-Psycho (woman driving in car)
-The Neverending Story (wolf thing)
-The Sixth Sense (in the dugeon scene for scary and I liked it's semi-happy ending and thoughful subject matter.)
-The Exorcism of Emily Rose-I thought it was a very thoughtful movie, and especially liked Emily's vision-also some good cinematography and creepy sequences-a very realistic portrayal of posession, as well
-The Others-when the mother turns around and her little girl looks like a little old laday
-Black Christmas, 1974-the creepy phone calls were the killer makes all these weird voices-truly scary-in my opinion, the 2006 one is, like the majority of remakes, crap.
-Scream 3-unlike its predecessors, I felt that this film dealt with the consequences of violence.
-The Village-I know people had mixed feelings on this one, but I liked its philosophical ending and was intrigued by the way it portrayed the two disabled characters-I haven't made up my mind regarding whether Night was portraying Noah as a villian or a victim-I didn't think that the movie was that scary-creepy in some parts, but otherwise more of a drama with supernatural elements.
-Bambi-I was four and I think that Bambi's mom dying really got to me, because I yelled, "no! I don't want to die!" out loud in the public movie theatre
-Pet Semetary-when the ghost of Rachel's sister was haunting her-the other scenes were kind of pathetically sad-like the three year old coming back from the dead...tragic in a way that was distracting from it being scary
-Suspiria-when that girl was running through the rain in a slicker and then that girl was attacked by two eyes from outside...creepy...also, the cinematagrophy was really good

Also, Scary Movies that Stunk...

The Texas Chainsaw massacre remake-gore, gore and more gore-remade just to put in MORE GORE

Any movie about Dahmer, Bundy, etc-marketing off their victims deaths and making them into antiheros, in my opinion

The First Scream-with the third movie it is better, as it then has a context and is dignified by showing how the victims were affected-but by itself it is based on a real event in j1990, which I feel is disrespectful, and also has a ton of plot-less gore. Also, two girls in NH, near the part of MA where I lived, were murdered by two guys who carried out their crime by copying Ghostface's murders

Signs-not the most awful movie I've ever seen, but the green alien thing was really lame

I Know What You Did Last Summer-I, II, and III-Frankly, I had next to no sympathy for the characters-they DESERVED to die, because they dumped that poor guy into the bay...not that that made murdering them okay. But, as I've said-gore must have a POINT besides gratifying the sick thing inside us that likes suffering-such productions make an excellent argument for the reality of Original Sin-otherwise, people wouldn't want to see that crap unless it was part of a broader plot (in my opinion.)

The Black Christmas Remake-again-just more, gratuitious gore-Dimension films actually made the director remake his first draft because it didn't have enough gore in it.

I can't watch scary movies - I get enthralled in things, and horror/suspense, even a lot of non-horror movies, leave me anxious for days.

I did watch the Butterfly Effect (I think that's the name?) about the guy with the freaky relationship with time, and he keeps travelling around changing past and future, & things get worse and worse. After that, I couldn't sleep for 3 weeks.

So, my vote is for no movies in this category.

The original ALIEN was the scariest movie I EVER saw. Nothing has come close since. i don't like slasher films so I can't say anything about them but I do like sci fi and ALIEN was by far the scariest.

The Grudge!!! Oooooooo....I had to leave my bedroom door open for several nights so my roommate could protect me. Hahahah!!!

I like the creepy, ghostly stuff...very few modern movies can pull it off well.

The Ring creeped me out.

The Blair Witch Project...but really only the last moments...which of course everything was preparing me for.

LOVE Poltergeist!!! Classic for me. In fact, I'm gonna watch it now. Thanks for the suggestion!!!!!

Yay! :)

There are so few real scary movies any more. Mostly, we've degenerated into "boo" movies and slash films. Blech.

Blair Witch did creep me out ... particularly the scene with all the little hands hitting the outside of the tent ... couldn't camp for a year.

White Noise was also very creepy, but they ruined it by going over the edge at the end (I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it).

I love the British comedy series Father Ted ... in it, there's a funny bit about scary movies ... Dougal, the young priest who's a few bulbs short of a string, is talking about a scary movie on tv that night, and Ted forbids him to watch it, because he had nightmares after Herby the Love Bug. "Oh c'mon, Ted, it was very scary. That little car driving around going mad."

Dawn of the Dead, and the "Crawling hand" Of course that is an old movie but I actually would be in bed thinking there was this hand going to jump out and get me. Which is why I don't watch alot of horror movies. They have a replay effect on my mind. A friend took me to the other movie and it was like a major gory event, most of the time I'd turn my head, just cannot deal with the stuff, it creeps me out.( Now why did I let them talk me into seeing it?) Slasher movies have the same effect on me, uggggghI've watched maybe two in my lifetime and that is enough.

Anybody love comedy??

When I was a kid "The Wizard of OZ" was a biggy. I would watch the movie standing behind the sofa so I could duck down when it got too scarey. My wife used to watch it "through her fingers" with her hands to her face!

What a great movie!! (for so many reasons)
