Alright, I'm working on problem solving with rational expressions and while I think I get most of it, this keeps throwing me for a loop....
When Y varies directly with X, then Y=KX. When Y varies inversely with X then Y=K(1/x). When Z varies jointly with X and Y, then Z=KXY ... and I have NO idea what they are trying to say

I'm just popping in to say that I feel your pain babe! But it makes no sense to me either. I passed pre-calculus because the math teacher was a really nice man and I had worked really hard to try and "get" it. Needless to say... I never took calculus.

You should be able to figure out K, your constant, as in a number that is constant through all of the equations, by putting in numbers to solve the three equations. There is missing information here, if you post a problem I could help you solve it, though it might be too late.
This is just a method of describing mathematical vocabulary... Your problems should look something like :
12 varies directly with 3. Find the constant.
You would then create the equation: 3K=12 and your answer would be 4, so the constant for (3,12) would be four, providing it is a direct variation.
If 12 varies indirectly with 3, your constant is 1/4.
If 4 and 3 vary jointly with 24, than your constant is 2.
See, it's easy.

Alright gentlemen, just because you are jealous that HE got to talk to me all afternoon and you didn't, is no reason to get angry.

Ahh... my other hero and the true love of my life... you are a little late, Andy beat everyone else to it... but I really appreciate it
