I live in the UK and in December 2005 the government introduced the right of same sex couples to have a Civil Partnership. This in the UK is exactly the same as marriage in all its legal and social aspects. My partner and I went though a Civil Partnership on 20 June 2006 in a registary office in Penzance Cornwall. It has made a big difference in our lives, we can say to people we are legal partners, and we have the backing of the law.

All the best in the campaign to legalise gay marriage in New York.

Congratulations on your partnership. I live in Texas and they banned any kind of partnership for gays and lesbians in 2005. I hope it comes up again as it is pushing against us on all sides. California's Assembly has passed gay marriage legislation, and they hope that the governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger will not veto it as he did in 2005, also. Arizona's gay marriage ban did not pass, so that left it wide open for gays and lesbians to at least gain some measure of equality. New Mexico, as far as I know, is one of the most gay friendly states in the Southwest. (someone correct me if I am wrong) and then there is the grand state of Texas, with all its backwards, ignorant, fundamentalist Christians who know nothing of love and acceptance, but fight to death for their right to discriminate. With the Southwest pushing in from the west and all the Northeast states, (Massachusetts, New Jersey, hopefully New York, and all the states with civil unions-Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut) I hope the peer pressure gets to Texas.

I think we are making strides and gaining ground. Pray for us here in the US. The UK is a good example of where we should be, as well as Canada. Why is the US always so far behind the rest of the world?

Texas is a messed up state: they ban marriage for gay people but are okay with hospitals denying medical care under the futile care law. For all those who live in Texas, nothing personal, I just think that your state leaders need a reality check.

I personally think our state leaders here in TX need to live for one day like gay people have to. No rights, no hope of protection if we get bashed, and of course, no right to get married and enjoy all those protections. Just one day, i want Rick Perry to have to come out to his parents, and co workers, face the condemnation and rejection and then make his dumbass laws and tell gay people to go live somewhere else. For one day, I want him to live like I do, or any of the illegal aliens he wants to deny amnesty to that cut his lawn or do the jobs he doesn't want to do.
