Anything at all. Hardware AND software
(spin off threads encouraged).

From which computer specialist to call should your monitor catch fire to how to quote another user, switch their words around, and make it seem like they said the opposite of what they intended. This is the place to dare to admit that YOU DON'T KNOW HOW!
But seriously, we all have computers, we all have questions, including about all the buttons that this web site has to offer – from those surrounding the reply box, to the links on the homepage, and everything in between.

I know I often feel the need for a safe space to ask a simple question that may require a technical answer. The feeling of not wanting to clutter up a thread (with my 'ignorance'), or "bother" someone with a PM often stops me, so I thought a thread like this might help with the fear.

As fun as Googling or trying to find the tutorial in question for hours on end can be, sometimes it's just funner and more effective to just ask and interact. :)

As I look around, this might even be a good place for spelling advice..

You can pretty much do everything on the blogs that take HTML "tags" that can be done here on Soulforce (bold, italics, hyperlinks, quotes, etc). But usually they don't have the buttons so you have to type it in.

Here's one resource on some simple HTML codes:

Check out the "Tutorial MiniChapters" if you're interested in enhancing your HTML blogging/web design experience.

(If you're new that is, 'don't mean to be patronizing :o)

I've definitely got to check that out! the site I had been using was not extremely helpful. I do ok, but I'd like to be able to do things quicker, ie not have to research it every time I need to use the html tags on my blog.

A couple of people have asked about this. Forgive me for not responding right away, I'm a perfectionist.

It's true, I'm an addict...

Anyway, for those of you who don't know, there is a plethora of images and smilies at www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com). Just type in the subject matter and flip through the images.

And don't be afraid to get creative if you're looking for something specific - the images are titled by those who post them.

They work well beyond the format of this forum though. I usually just copy and paste the IMG tag into this reply box, but I think you can put these on your web site, or just link to them, or use them in emails too.

It took me a few times to memorize the 'formula,' but next to having a computer, this has changed my life.

Whenever you see this:
You can use some HTML tags, such as <b>, <i>, <a>

The <a> part means you can insert a hyperlink.

It explains how here. (http://www.davesite.com/webstation/html/chap04.shtml) (<that is a hyperlink)

Or in html terms:

It explains how <a href="web address">here</a>
So:
Memorize <a href="

Then paste the web address.

Then type ">

Then type in the word or phrase you want to represent the web address.

Then close it with </a>
It should then look something like this:
<a href="complicatedwebaddressthatIcopiedandpastedfromtheto pofmyscreen">How to insert hyperlinks on regular blogs</a>

Which then appears as:
How to insert hyperlinks on regular blogs (http://www.soulforce.org/forums/showthread.php?p=39690#post39690)

Click on it, I dare ya.

If you're not familiar with this, practice it with the preview function.

And don't forget:
It explains how here. (http://www.davesite.com/webstation/html/chap04.shtml)

The Wayback Machine
http://www.archive.org/index.php

It’s an archive of internet pages, and is usually used to find web pages that have expired.

So if you run across an older article, with hyperlinks to nowhere (http://./), just right click on the now defunct hyperlink, click properties, and you will see the entire web address that the link was meant to go to.

Then just copy it and paste it into the Wayback Machine box, and if it’s been archived, it should show up.
--
Make sure to erase that http:// in the box though, as it should already be at the front of the address you have.
--
It's an excellent resource for internet research, of any kind.

Not only are some dead ends no longer dead, but they end up branching out even further.

It doesn’t always work, but very often it does.

It's one for the favorites. :agree:
